  • Are Mini Games Important in Video Games?

Mini-games inside of video games are often seen as a humorous gimmick put in by the developers to add a little bit of extra fun into their games, but is this really all they are? With the number of games that actually include mini-games, it would seem somewhat strange for developers to waste time and resources on implementing mini-games if they had no real purpose at such a frequent rate.

There may actually be more to mini-games than you would first expect, and in this article, we are going to be delving into whether or not they play an important role in video games.

    It Depends On The Game

When it comes to the debate of whether or not mini-games are important, there is something incredibly crucial that we have to factor into the equation; not all games are the same. Giving a blanket statement as to whether or not mini-games are important would be outright pointless – some games rely on mini-games massively, while others just include them as a fun extra.

There are countless incredible mini-games inside games out there, and to try and sum them all up into one category would be entirely misleading. Take Yakuza for example.

The mini-games inside the Yakuza franchise are famous around the world, and it is likely that the Yakuza series would not have received nearly as much notoriety if its infamous mini-games were not included.

However, if for instance we decided to put another game under the scope like Red Dead Redemption 2, then mini-games seem to become a lot less important; this is a game that would have likely been just fine without mini-games.

Sure, you could say that the latter example is a little lacklustre as all of the mini-games on Red Dead 2 are just card classics that can be found on actual gambling sites like Unibet casino – this is true. Although, the real reason the mini-games in Red Dead 2 do not have as big of an impact as can be found with the mini-games in Yakuza is because that’s precisely how they were designed – mini-games were not meant to be the main content avenue in Red Dead 2.

    More Content is (Usually) Better

If you take a look at any of the top high play-time games, you are likely going to see that the vast majority of them include mini-games. In addition to this, there is another common pattern that spans across high play-time games, and that is that most of them tend to be incredibly well received.

In the vast majority of cases (when quality is not sacrificed), more content is always better. This means that mini-games play an important role by upping the play-time/overall content of many games in the market.

Mini-games just make a world feel more alive, and the more enjoyable stuff there is to do in a game, the better.

What do you think of mini-games inside video games? Do you happen to love when developers include little extras for you to do, or do you think the time spent on implementing them would have been better spent elsewhere? Both sides of the debate are extremely valid, and the right answer is going to differ on how much you like mini-games as a whole.

In all likelihood, mini-games are going to continue to be a staple in the world of gaming for the foreseeable future, and who knows; maybe the next Gwent is waiting for us right around the corner. See you in the next one.

  • Best Crazy Games of All the Times

The art form of video games is stunning. Now more than ever, games can engage with players via memorable characters and profound narratives. To top it all off, the interactive nature of video games gives players an advantage that allows them to feel more connected to the characters than with any other media. However, letting your imagination run free is often the most enjoyable element of video games. Sometimes a game doesn’t care how it makes you feel; all it wants to do is give you a good time, even if that means going completely bonkers. We present to you five Crazy games that will push your limits in every possible way.

    Goat Simulator

The game Goat Simulator has to be on any list of insane video games. The game’s premise—that players will take control of a goat and cause mayhem in a large suburban city—is the game’s main selling point. The goat may even be manipulated using ragdoll physics, causing it to twist and contort in unnatural positions.

Since it’s so easy to pick up and play, gamers of all skill levels can join in on the absurd, comedic fun. The fact that a third instalment, Goat Simulator 3, is in the works just adds to the bizarreness of the original… in spite of the fact that there is no Goat Simulator 2

    Power Wash Simulator

Power Wash Simulator’s intended use may not be as shocking as some of the other games on this page, but consider its alternative: actual power washing. The goal of the game is to clean as much as possible, including futuristic spaceships and antique sculptures. Apparently, that’s not all there is to this amazing tale; buried underneath it all is a tale of volcanoes, lost cats, and an old civilisation.

Power Wash Simulator has a calming, zen vibe that makes it hard to put down, even when it shouldn’t. Despite its banality, it is therapeutic and provides a delightful experience that is just bizarre enough to stay with you long after you’ve finished playing.

    Super Monkey Ball Series

There are instances when a game’s “craziness” may be determined simply by trying to sum up its concept in a few words. Super Monkey Ball is a game in which you control a monkey trapped inside a ball by tilting the screen and sending the ball rolling. I hope you make it to the finish of the level.

So, in theory? Weird. In actual use? No less strange, but awesome all the same. Super Monkey Ball may be lacking in plot and language beyond the obligatory “oohs” and “ahs,” but it more than makes up for it with its remarkable gameplay complexity and hard puzzles.

    Katamari Damacy

The godlike monarch of Katamari Damacy’s planet, the King of All Cosmos, was hammered and destroyed almost the whole universe, as you learn right away. Some powerful apple juice, I’m guessing. If the Prince is to preserve the cosmos, he must now bundle up earthly things into an adhesive ball. As it turns out, duct tape wasn’t quite durable enough.

Though “strange” may be defined by playing Katamari Damacy, it’s the type of game we wouldn’t trade for anything. The game breaks with convention and succeeds in every respect because to its catchy, upbeat music and innovative puzzle-based gameplay. The game’s creators clearly had a lot of fun experimenting with different mechanics, which results in something completely fresh (and endearingly odd) that’s hard to put down.

    Mortal Kombat Series

Mortal Kombat is among the most popular and influential series of fighting video games, and also one of the craziest. It’s not a game for the weak of stomach, what with all the blood, limbs, and over-the-top action.

Despite the interesting idea of a fight-to-the-death tournament, the plot of Mortal Kombat never tries to explain anything. Sometimes characters will die in one entry and return in the next, and overall canon has been played with. It’s a great combatant, but you should probably tune your head out while watching it.
