Strategy fans, mark your calendars and fire up your wishlists! Independent developer Fluxionary Studios has officially unveiled the debut announcement trailer for Time Distortionists, alongside the launch of the game’s official Steam page.
If you’ve ever wanted to hold the fate of 13 billion years of history in your hands, this single-player, turn-based strategy title is setting up to be your next major obsession.
What is Time Distortionists?
In Time Distortionists, you are placed in charge of The Anchor—a specialised base suspended outside the normal flow of cause and effect. From this vantage point beyond causality, you are tasked with monitoring, managing, and defending the entire timeline against a creeping existential threat known as Stasis (and the temporal Erosion it causes).
Rather than focusing on a single time period or a localised historical event, Time Distortionists treats the whole continuum as a massive, dynamic strategy board. Players will scan through 13 billion years of history—from the cosmic dawn of the Big Bang, through ancient civilisations and modern ages, all the way to far-future spacefaring eras.
Managing History: Key Features
- Command The Anchor: Expand and upgrade your base of operations grid by grid. You’ll need to carefully balance resource management, agent support, research, and temporal defences to keep operations running.
- Deploy Specialised Squads: Match specialised agent classes—including Chronautes, Thaumaturgists, Mediators, Archivists, and Catalysts—to critical temporal crises. Selecting the right team is an intricate puzzle rather than a simple stat check.
- Master the Ripple Effect: Every decision you make rewrites what comes next. Intervening in one era can alter future alliances, collapse downstream civilisations, or spark entirely new crises across time.
- Build Across Eras: Construct infrastructure directly within history to stabilise key “Moments” before temporal Erosion erases them forever.
- Accept the Scarcity: You cannot save everything. Resources are strictly finite, and crises will always outnumber your agents. True strategy comes down to deciding what deserves to survive—and what you must let fade away.
Confronting the End of Time
According to developer Bill Dusch, founder of Fluxionary Studios, the game pushes time-travel storytelling beyond traditional tropes:
“Time travel stories usually focus on changing one pivotal event. I wanted to explore what happens when the entire timeline becomes a strategy problem. Every decision ripples forward, every solution creates new consequences, and eventually you have to confront the possibility that preserving everything may be just as dangerous as destroying it.”
Whether you choose to build massive timeline-spanning infrastructure to seal off the threat of Stasis or level up an elite force to confront the menace directly at the end of time, Time Distortionists promises a deep, consequence-driven campaign where every turn counts.
