  • Set Sail for the Afterlife: Why ‘Cursed Tails’ is the Deckbuilder You Can’t Shake

Set Sail for the Afterlife: Why ‘Cursed Tails’ is the Deckbuilder You Can’t Shake

The deckbuilding roguelike genre is getting a bit crowded lately. We’ve climbed the Spire, outrun the Blight, and battled through countless dungeons. But every so often, a title emerges from the fog that feels genuinely fresh—or in this case, refreshingly decomposed.

Enter Cursed Tails, the new maritime roguelike that swaps the standard fantasy tropes for a salt-stained, spectral adventure on the high seas.

The Premise: Captain of the Damned

In Cursed Tails, you aren’t just a pirate; you are the spectral commander of a legendary ghost ship. Your crew? A motley collection of spirits, skeletons, and cursed entities. Your goal? To navigate a procedurally generated ocean filled with naval blockades, sea monsters, and rival phantom captains.

What sets this apart from the Slay the Spire clones is the positional deckbuilding. You aren’t just playing cards to deal damage; you’re managing the orientation of your ship and the placement of your ghostly crew.

    Core Gameplay Mechanics

    • Broadside Combat: Unlike typical 1v1 card battles, Cursed Tails uses a “lane” system. You must manoeuvre your ship to align your strongest cannons with the enemy’s weak points.
    • The Soul Harvest: Winning battles yields “Ectoplasm,” a resource used to upgrade your ship’s hull or “ascend” your cards into more powerful, haunting versions.
    • Persistent Curses: In a clever twist on the “relic” system, your ship accumulates Curses. While these provide massive power boosts, they also introduce unpredictable glitches into your deck—like cards that vanish or deal “friendly fire” to your own crew.

    Why It Stands Out

The aesthetic of Cursed Tails is a masterclass in atmosphere. Think Return of the Obra Dinn meets a neon-drenched maritime fever dream. The sound design—creaking wood, distant shanties, and the ethereal howl of the wind—pulls you into the captain’s chair immediately.

Pro Tip: Don’t ignore the “Manifest” cards. While they cost more Soul energy, summoning a Kraken’s tentacle to block incoming fire is often the difference between a successful run and a watery grave.

    The Verdict

Cursed Tails manages to nail that “just one more run” feeling. It’s challenging, tactically deep, and oozes character. If you’ve been looking for a reason to return to deckbuilders, this ghost ship is calling your name.

Cursed Tails is available now on PC and consoles. Grab your tricorn hat and prepare to haunt the horizon.

Have you had a chance to test the waters in Cursed Tails yet, or are you still trying to beat your record in Balatro?

  • Tactical Sunshine and Doom: Exploring the Roguelike Brilliance of Sol Cesto

Tactical Sunshine and Doom: Exploring the Roguelike Brilliance of Sol Cesto

If you’ve been following the indie scene lately, you know that Goblinz Publishing has a knack for picking winners that blend strategy with unique aesthetics. Their latest venture into the dark, punishing world of Sol Cesto is no exception.

Developed by the duo Géraud Zucchini and Chariospirale, Sol Cesto is a tactical roguelike that feels like a fever dream wrapped in a deck-builder, then dipped in a vat of gothic, hand-drawn ink.

The Premise: A Descent into the Pit

At its core, Sol Cesto is a game about the verticality of dread. You lead a small team of four heroes into the depths of a mysterious hole. Your goal? Reach the bottom, stop the sun from crashing into the world (or something equally catastrophic), and try not to lose your sanity along the way.

What sets it apart from your standard dungeon crawler is the rhythm of the descent. Every move is a gamble, and every floor is a puzzle where the walls are literally closing in.

    Gameplay Mechanics: Luck vs. Logic

The game utilises a clever “slot-machine” style combat and movement system that forces you to balance RNG with cold, hard strategy.

    • The Four Heroes: Each run starts with a party of four. Their positioning matters—who takes the hit, who deals the blow, and who is sacrificed for the greater good.
    • The “Sol” System: Light is your currency and your lifeline. Managing your light levels determines how much “luck” you can manipulate during your turn.
    • Permadeath (With a Twist): In true Goblinz fashion, death is a teacher. While a wipeout sends you back to the surface, the knowledge (and occasional meta-progression) you gain makes the next drop feel just a bit more survivable.

    Aesthetic: Gritty, Raw, and Gorgeous

We have to talk about the art style. Chariospirale’s visual direction is haunting. It uses a limited colour palette—heavy on the blacks, whites, and ominous yellows—that makes the game feel like a playable woodcut illustration.

“Sol Cesto doesn’t just look like a game; it looks like an artifact found in a dusty attic that might be cursed. In the best way possible.”

    Why You Should Play It

If you’re a fan of Darkest Dungeon or Luck be a Landlord, but you want something that plays faster and feels more experimental, Sol Cesto hits that sweet spot. It’s snappy, punishing, and rewards players who can think three floors ahead.

    Key Features:

    • Deep Strategy: Minimalist UI masks a complex web of character synergies.
    • Short Bursts: Perfect for “just one more run” sessions.
    • Atmospheric Soundtrack: A brooding score that perfectly complements the claustrophobic descent.

    The Verdict

Géraud Zucchini and Chariospirale have crafted something truly distinct here. With Goblinz Publishing backing the project, Sol Cesto is polished, weird, and incredibly addictive. It’s a reminder that the roguelike genre still has plenty of room for innovation—especially when that innovation comes from the dark, creative corners of the indie world.

Sol Cesto is available now. Are you ready to take the plunge?

  • Valkyrie Initiative and 70`Strike Check-In: Welcome to the Inferno Hotel

Valkyrie Initiative and 70`Strike Check-In: Welcome to the Inferno Hotel

Retro-gaming fans, it’s time to pack your bags for the afterlife. Publisher Valkyrie Initiative and solo developer 70`Strike (the creative mind behind Skelethrone) have officially pulled back the curtain on Kettlebell: Inferno Hotel, a fast-paced 2D platformer that’s looking to inject some serious 16-bit attitude into the modern era.

If you’ve ever felt like your morning commute was hellish, spare a thought for Mr K. He’s an ordinary office clerk who finds himself in the ultimate HR nightmare: a fatal accident sends him straight to Hell. However, in this universe, the underworld isn’t just fire and brimstone—it’s a chaotic, sprawling hotel where every floor has its own set of lethal rules.

What to Expect Behind the Lobby Doors

Inspired by the “weird energy” of ’90s classics like Earthworm Jim, Boogerman, and Sonic the Hedgehog, Kettlebell: Inferno Hotel aims for a balance of high-speed precision and satirical humour.

    • Handcrafted Chaos: Explore 9 floors and over 40 levels of the Inferno Hotel, ranging from fiery industrial zones to parks populated by homeless souls.
    • Grotesque Combat: Face off against bizarre enemies and bosses using Mr K’s signature weapon (and the game’s namesake)—the kettlebell.
    • Retro Vibes, Modern Polish: The game features hand-drawn pixel art, frame-by-frame animation, and an eclectic soundtrack blending jazz, ’80s disco, and blues.

“After working on the dark and demanding world of Skelethrone, I wanted to create something lighter, stranger, and more playful,” says developer Ksayfar (Dmitriy Bukhtatov). “It’s my love letter to the ’90s… filtered through a bizarre vision of Hell inspired by The Divine Comedy.”

  • Steam’s Newest Steampunk Obsession: Crystalfall Hits Early Access

Steam’s Newest Steampunk Obsession: Crystalfall Hits Early Access

If you’ve been itching for a new ARPG to sink your teeth into—one that smells of brass, steam, and desperate survival—today is your lucky day. CRG Studio has officially pulled the lever, launching Crystalfall into Early Access on Steam.

Set in a world literally shattered by a mysterious asteroid impact, Crystalfall isn’t just another dungeon crawler. It’s a free-to-play, post-apocalyptic wasteland where volatile crystal energy powers everything from your gear to the terrifying mutations roaming the wilds.

Gear, Grind, and Gadgets: What to Expect

While the “free-to-play” tag might make some veterans wary, CRG Studio is aiming for the hearts of hardcore theorycrafters. Drawing clear inspiration from titans like Path of Exile and Diablo 2, the game emphasises deep, systemic complexity over hand-holding.

    The Early Access launch includes:

    • Three Playable Classes: Distinct frameworks that let you shape your combat identity.
    • A Five-Act Campaign: Approximately 10 hours of story-driven content to get your boots on the ground.
    • Procedural Skill Trees: In a clever twist, skills themselves are lootable items that come with their own randomised progression paths.
    • Early Endgame & Trading: A glimpse into the long-term “infinite” endgame and a player-driven economy.

More Than Just a “PoE Clone”

What sets Crystalfall apart is its commitment to the steampunk aesthetic paired with “lootable skills.” Instead of just picking a skill from a menu, you find them in the world. These skills can be further modified with Skill Crests, allowing for the kind of “wait, that actually works?” synergies that ARPG fans live for.

Whether you’re dual-wielding steampunk staves or rocking a pistol-and-shield setup, the focus is on experimentation. CRG Studio has been transparent about the journey ahead, noting that they expect to remain in Early Access for at least nine months to polish mechanics and expand content based on community feedback.

    Launch Celebrations & Rewards

To celebrate the launch, the devs are running weekly in-game challenges for the first three weeks. Players who tackle the campaign or climb the endgame leaderboards can win Credits to spend on cosmetics.

Speaking of cosmetics, if you want to support the studio, they’ve launched five tiers of Founder Packs (ranging from Iron to Platinum), which include everything from “Steampunk Diver” armour sets to mechanical pets.

    The Verdict

With over 120,000 wishlists heading into today, the hype is real. It’s a bold move to enter a space dominated by giants, but Crystalfall’s mix of procedural depth and atmospheric world-building makes it a serious contender for your next “one more map” obsession.

Crystalfall is available to download for free right now on Steam.

Quick Tech Specs: > * OS: Windows 10/11

    • Processor: Intel Core i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350
    • Memory: 8GB RAM (16GB recommended)
    • Storage: 14GB (SSD highly recommended)

  • SHIKA-Q Officially Launches Today On Sony PlayStation & Nintendo Switch

SHIKA-Q Officially Launches Today On Sony PlayStation & Nintendo Switch

The wait is finally over for puzzle fans looking for something a bit more high-octane. SHIKA-Q, the “ultra-fast” competitive puzzle game from developer AGNI-FLARE, officially launches today, April 9, 2026, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

If you’ve grown tired of the slow, methodical pace of traditional falling-block games, SHIKA-Q is here to kick things into overdrive.

    Strategy Meets Speed

Unlike the classics, where you wait for blocks to drop, SHIKA-Q takes place on a 10×10 board where everything happens in real-time. You aren’t just matching shapes; you’re engaging in a high-speed tug-of-war.

The core mechanic involves connecting “Links” to trigger simultaneous attacks, defences, and recoveries. It feels less like Tetris and more like a fighting game, where reading your opponent’s intentions is just as important as your own reflexes.

    Key Features at Launch:

    • Real-Time Battles: Every move you make immediately impacts the board, allowing for instant offence and defence.
    • Music-Driven Gameplay: The game features original vocal tracks that aren’t just background noise—they evolve and sync with the intensity of the match.
    • Challenge Mode: A massive single-player experience with 99 stages designed to test your tactical limits.
    • Online & Ranked Play: Take your skills global and climb the leaderboards in competitive ranked matches.

    Customise Your Experience

One of the standout features mentioned in today’s launch is the deep level of customisation. Players can unlock and swap out UI designs, emotes, loading screens, and even specific character songs.

For those looking to dive even deeper, the Nexus Battle Pass also goes live today. This seasonal system introduces five unique characters and themes, offering a steady stream of cosmetic rewards for dedicated players.

    Where to Get It

SHIKA-Q is available now as a digital download. UK players can pick it up on the Nintendo eShop for approximately £12.60 ($15.99), with similar pricing on the PlayStation Store.

Whether you’re looking for a quick five-minute mental workout or a sweaty night of ranked ladder climbing, SHIKA-Q looks set to be the new obsession for the competitive puzzle community.

  • A Date with Destiny (and Danger): Spaghetti Cat Announces ‘Midnight Souls’

A Date with Destiny (and Danger): Spaghetti Cat Announces ‘Midnight Souls’

Get ready to pack your bags for the town of Camomile Peaks—though you might want to bring more than just a change of clothes. Publisher Spaghetti Cat has officially pulled back the curtain on Midnight Souls, an atmospheric 2D mystical adventure that blends small-town charm with bone-chilling mystery.

Developed by Bolshakov Sergey, this indie title is shaping up to be a unique cocktail of black humour, nostalgia, and psychological horror.

The Story: Love, Loneliness, and… a Cat named Charlie

In Midnight Souls, you play as a teenager travelling to the remote provincial town of Camomile Peaks. The mission? A first date with a girl you met online. It sounds like the start of a classic rom-com, but as soon as the train stops, the vibe shifts from romantic to surreal.

The town is brimming with secrets, and what was supposed to be a weekend of young love quickly spirals into a fight for survival. To win over his crush, the protagonist must navigate:

    • Deadly Puzzles: Traps and environmental challenges that guard the town’s darkest secrets.
    • Social Hurdles: Making “socially acceptable” friends while battling deep-seated insecurities.
    • Charlie the Cat: Because no mystical adventure is complete without a feline companion to look after.

    Gameplay & Aesthetics

The game utilises modern pixel art technologies to create a world that feels both hauntingly familiar and deeply unsettling. Spaghetti Cat describes the experience as a “three-act story” (Setup, Confrontation, and Resolution) that leans heavily into the feeling of “longing for places not everyone can return to.”

    Key Features include:

    • Dynamic Minigames: From QTEs to unique interactive segments that break up the exploration.
    • Dark Humour: Expect witty, sharp dialogue that balances the game’s more frightening moments.
    • Provincial Atmosphere: A beautifully realised setting that captures the isolation of a mysterious small town.

    The Studio Behind the Magic

Known for their eclectic and often humorous approach to gaming, the team at Spaghetti Cat—which jokingly describes itself as “a developer, an artist, and a couple of cheese sandwiches”—continues to champion indie projects with a distinct voice.

“To win his first love, the protagonist must overcome fear and insecurity, make new friends, and take care of his cat, Charlie.”

Midnight Souls is currently slated for a PC release via Steam, with a full release window currently targeted for late 2026/early 2027. If you’re a fan of narrative-driven adventures like Night in the Woods or Oxenfree, this is definitely one to keep on your radar.

The long-awaited moment for survival fans has arrived. Qooland Games has officially transitioned Soulmask out of Early Access, launching Version 1.0 today on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

After nearly two years of refinement and over 800,000 players helping shape the primitive world, the 1.0 release isn’t just a “label swap”—it’s a massive overhaul accompanied by a sprawling, Egyptian-themed expansion.

The Shifting Sands DLC: Ancient Egypt Takes Flight

Launching alongside the base game is the Shifting Sands expansion. This isn’t just a minor map addition; it effectively doubles the size of the game world.

    • A New Frontier: Explore river deltas, vast deserts, and monumental pyramids inspired by ancient Egypt.
    • Pyramid Airships: The most game-changing addition. Players can now build flying tribal bases. These aren’t just for travel—they are mobile sky cities that support living space, resource production, and aerial combat.
    • God-Themed Masks: Four new masks—Horus, Anubis, Sobek, and Amun-Ra—grant unique divine abilities, ranging from flight to reviving allies or unleashing sun-based attacks.

  • The icy depths of Europa are about to get a lot more crowded—and a lot more permanent

The icy depths of Europa are about to get a lot more crowded—and a lot more permanent

During the latest Triple-i Initiative showcase on 9 April 2026, developer Undertow Games and publisher Daedalic Entertainment finally pulled back the curtain on the first gameplay for the highly anticipated Barotrauma: Home & Harbor expansion. Since the game’s 1.0 release in 2023, fans have been hungry for more than just survival, and it looks like the developers are ready to deliver a full-scale civilisation builder under the sea.

Setting Down Roots in the Abyss

The headline feature of the expansion is Outpost Ownership and Base Building. For the first time, your crew won’t just be passing through those dingy underwater stations to sell loot and cure parasites; you’ll be able to claim them for yourself.

    • Customisation: Use new modules to expand your outpost, tailoring it for heavy industry, scientific research, or deep-sea defence.
    • Management: You’ll need to manage NPC inhabitants and establish workshops to build a thriving underwater economy.
    • Conquest: If you find an outpost you like that belongs to someone else? You can take it by force, assuming your hull can handle the heat.

    Enter the Descendants

The gameplay reveal also introduced a mysterious new faction: The Descendants. This technocratic group leans heavily into transhumanist horror, utilising alien technology and body modification to survive the pressure.

Their arrival brings a host of new content, including:

    • Cybernetic Enhancements: New ways to “upgrade” your crew beyond simple talents.
    • Energy Weapons: High-tech tools to fend off Europa’s increasingly aggressive wildlife.
    • Deep Lore: New questlines that delve into the origins of these body-modified sailors.

    A Living, Breathing Europa

Beyond the building mechanics, Home & Harbor aims to make the world feel reactive. The Dynamic World Update ensures that NPC factions interact with each other independently of the player. Roaming submarines will now move between outposts, directly impacting the local economy and making trade routes feel like living arteries of the ocean.

    FeatureDescription
    Release WindowAutumn 2026
Core GameplayBase building, NPC management, and research trees
    New FactionThe Descendants (Technocratic/Alien-tech)
    PlatformsPC (via Steam)

    The Spring Update is Live

While the expansion is slated for Autumn 2026, there is plenty to do right now. Launching alongside the reveal was the Spring Update, a free content drop that reworks Tier 1 submarines, introduces monster deconstruction, and adds several quality-of-life improvements. It’s the perfect way to sharpen your skills before the responsibility of running an entire colony lands on your shoulders.

Pro Tip: Keep an eye on your reputation. With the new faction interaction system, a “friendly gift” to one group might turn you into a target for another. Just make sure the gift isn’t Husk-infected.

  • Judgment is Coming: Fulqrum Publishing Reveals Inquisitor Simulator

Judgment is Coming: Fulqrum Publishing Reveals Inquisitor Simulator

If you’ve ever looked at a chaotic situation and thought, “This would be much easier if I could just purge the lot of them,” then Fulqrum Publishing has a treat for you. The publisher behind Forgive Me Father and Men of War has officially announced Inquisitor Simulator, a darkly humorous management sim that puts you in the hot seat of a medieval-esque inquisitorial monastery.

Coming to PC and consoles, this isn’t your typical “save the world” hero story. It’s a game about making tough calls with very little evidence and dealing with the (often messy) consequences.

    Faith, Instinct, and Wild Guesswork

Developed by Edyan.dev, a small but ambitious three-person team, Inquisitor Simulator casts you as an Inquisitor overseeing a remote monastery. Your job? Identify and contain supernatural threats. The catch? The truth is rarely obvious, and the “Inquisitor’s Manual” doesn’t cover everything.

    Key features include:

    • Monastery Management: Restore crumbling halls, manage your staff of monks, and expand forbidden archives. You’ll need to balance spiritual purity with structural integrity.
    • The Interrogation Room: Use a variety of tools and “persuasive encouragement” to extract confessions. Whether they are actually guilty is sometimes a secondary concern to getting the job done.
    • Deep Alchemy System: Brew remedies to help your followers or corruptive mixtures for… other purposes. Experimentation is encouraged, even if you immediately regret the results.
    • Diverse Threats: Face five major supernatural horrors and a rotating cast of lesser evils. When in doubt, the developers suggest that “apply fire” remains a highly effective fallback.

A Different Kind of Dark Fantasy

While the premise sounds grim, the game leans heavily into dark satire. You’ll be processing a steady stream of suspicious individuals—some genuinely possessed, some just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s a management sim where “misjudgment” is a gameplay mechanic rather than a failure state.

“Prepare to pass judgment where certainty is rare, evidence is questionable, and the stakes may be spiritually catastrophic.”

    When Can We Play?

While a specific release date hasn’t been nailed down just yet, Fulqrum has confirmed the title is heading to PC (via Steam) and consoles.

For those who enjoyed the atmospheric dread of The Inquisitor (2024) but wanted more hands-on management and a wicked sense of humour, this looks like one to add to the wishlist.

  • Take to the Skies: Solarpunk Lands on PC and Consoles this June

Take to the Skies: Solarpunk Lands on PC and Consoles this June

Get your airships ready and your solar panels polished. The wait for one of the most anticipated indie titles of the year is nearly over. Publisher rokaplay and developer Cyberwave have officially announced that their cosy survival adventure, Solarpunk, will launch on June 8, 2026.

The announcement, which debuted during the recent Triple-I Initiative showcase, confirms that the game will be coming to a wide array of platforms, including PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

    A High-Flying Vision

Developed by a dedicated two-person team over the last four years, Solarpunk has become a massive community favourite, amassing over one million wishlists on Steam. Set in a stunning world of floating islands, the game swaps the typical “grit and grime” of the survival genre for a hopeful, high-tech future where sustainability is the name of the game.

Key Features to Look Forward To:

    • Sustainable Survival: Forget hunting for scrap in the mud. In Solarpunk, you harness the power of the sun, wind, and water to create renewable energy systems that power your gadgets and automated farms.
    • Airship Exploration: The sky is your playground. Players can build and customise their own airships to travel between distant islands, discovering new resources and secrets hidden in the clouds.
    • Co-op Adventures: While you can enjoy a peaceful solo journey, the game supports online co-op for up to four players. Share the load of resource gathering, build a massive floating sanctuary together, or simply enjoy the view with friends.
    • Cosy Automation: From building intricate irrigation systems to crafting helpful robots, the focus is on creating a self-sufficient ecosystem so you have more time to explore and decorate.

“Solarpunk is a survival game in a technically advanced world of floating islands… Alone or together with your friends, you can construct buildings, grow food, craft gadgets and hop on your airship to explore distant islands in the sky.” — Cyberwave Development Team

    Why the Hype is Real

The game’s recent demo during Steam Next Fest saw over 500,000 downloads, proving that there is a massive appetite for “cosy survival.” By removing the stress of traditional survival mechanics and replacing them with rewarding automation and beautiful aesthetics, Cyberwave is carving out a unique niche in the genre.

Whether you’re looking to build a sustainable paradise or explore the far reaches of a shattered world, mark your calendars for June 8. It’s time to see what life is like above the clouds.

  • N’Kuhana’s Call: Everything We Know About Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts

N’Kuhana’s Call: Everything We Know About Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts

The forecast on Petrichor V just got a lot darker. Following the recent Triple-i Initiative showcase, Gearbox and 2K have officially pulled back the curtain on the next major expansion for our favourite planetary roguelike: Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts.

If Survivors of the Void was about the encroaching purple corruption of the Moon’s mirror dimension, Hallowed Concepts feels like a descent into the ancient, ritualistic lore of the planet itself. Specifically, it’s time to talk about N’Kuhana.

The Deep Lore: “She Is Watching”

Longtime players know N’Kuhana as the goddess of decay and “The Concept of Death.” Until now, her presence has been limited to cryptic item descriptions and the hidden altar in the Wetland Aspect.

Hallowed Concepts is leaning heavily into this “cult-like” aesthetic. The trailer teased the Hidden Secrets of the N’tormat, suggesting that the expansion will explore the fanatical followers of N’Kuhana and the biological horror of her “gifts.”

New Stages: Back to the Roots

The expansion is set to introduce several new environments that look significantly more organic and “fleshy” than the industrial or crystalline stages of previous updates:

    • Tenebrous Quagmire: A haunting village-scape home to the gibbering Lynx Tribe.
    • The Lurid Basilica: A sacred ground where chanting followers still perform ancient rites.
    • Damp Caverns: A returning favourite from the original Risk of Rain, reimagined in 3D and filled with “fungal beasts.”

Survivors and Items: Curses and Power

While we don’t have the full kit reveals yet, Gearbox confirmed two new playable Survivors are joining the roster. Based on the “Hallowed” theme, fans are speculating that one might be a cultist or a character heavily reliant on the “Corruption” mechanics seen in the Hallowed Mod (which likely served as spiritual inspiration for this official DLC).

    Key Features Expected:

    • Powerful Curses: A new tier of items or status effects that offer massive power at a high cost to the player’s health or stability.
    • The Lynx Tribe: A new faction of enemies that looks to be more agile and swarm-oriented than the standard Lemurians.
    • Deadly Trials: Rumours of mid-stage “Ritual” events that players can trigger for high-tier loot.

    When Can We Play?

As of April 2026, the official release date is still listed as TBD 2026. However, with the announcement trailer now live and the Steam page available for wishlisting, we expect a late summer or autumn launch.

TechMash Verdict: Risk of Rain 2 continues to prove it has one of the best post-launch pipelines in the genre. By pivoting away from the Void and into the deeper biological lore of N’Kuhana, Hallowed Concepts looks set to bring a much-needed “spooky” variety to the current stage rotation.

  • Rayman’s Back! Everything You Need to Know About the 30th Anniversary Edition

Rayman’s Back! Everything You Need to Know About the 30th Anniversary Edition

It’s been a long, quiet decade for fans of the limbless wonder. While the Rabbids were busy taking over the world (and teaming up with Mario), Rayman has been largely relegated to the “nostalgia” folder. But 2026 is officially the year of the helicopter hair!

To celebrate three decades of the platforming icon, Ubisoft and the retro-preservation wizards at Digital Eclipse have released the Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition. It’s not just a quick port; it’s a full-blown digital museum that honours one of the most beautiful—and notoriously difficult—games of the 90s.

What’s in the Box (or the Digital Download)?

Rather than picking one version to port, Digital Eclipse has gone the “Gold Master” route. This collection includes five different versions of the original 1995 masterpiece:

    • Atari Jaguar: The original vision.
    • PlayStation: The version most of us grew up with.
    • MS-DOS: For the PC purists.
    • Game Boy Colour & Game Boy Advance: Perfect for that handheld fix.

The Holy Grail: For the first time ever, players can jump into the unreleased SNES prototype. This is a piece of gaming history that was lost for years, showing a 16-bit Rayman that never actually made it to market.

    New Features & “Mercy” Modes

Let’s be honest: the original Rayman was harder than a week-old baguette. It was a game of “pixel-perfect” jumps and limited lives that sent many of us into a rage. The Anniversary Edition fixes this with some modern sensibilities:

    • Rewind Function: Made a bad jump? Just rewind time by 60 seconds.
    • Infinite Lives: Toggle this on to explore the Dream Forest without the fear of the “Game Over” screen.
    • 120 Bonus Levels: The collection includes level packs like Rayman Designer and Rayman by his Fans, effectively doubling the amount of content.
    • Interactive Documentary: Over 50 minutes of interviews with the original team, including rare concept art and design docs.

    The Music Controversy

It wouldn’t be a modern release without a little drama. The Anniversary Edition features a “reimagined” soundtrack by the legendary Christophe Héral (Rayman Origins/Legends).

While the new arrangements are beautiful, many purists missed the original 1995 MIDI and CD audio tracks. Luckily, Ubisoft has heard the feedback; a version 1.1 patch is rolling out this month to address save issues and audio tweaks, with rumours of an “original OST” toggle in the works.

    Physical Release & Future Outlook

If you’re a collector, mark June 2026 on your calendar. A physical edition is coming to Nintendo Switch and PS5, complete with postcards, stickers, and a retro poster.

“Rayman is a landmark franchise for Ubisoft… this is just the first step in the brand’s comeback.” — Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO

With rumours of a brand-new 3D Rayman project in development (with series creator Michel Ancel reportedly consulting), this 30th Anniversary celebration feels like the perfect appetiser for a main course we’ve been waiting 13 years to eat.

Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition is out now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC for a very reasonable £17.99 / $19.99.

Are you ready to tackle the Candy Chateau again, or are the scars from 1995 still too deep?
