  • Catnip and Chaos: ‘Astro Burn’ Hits Steam Early Access After London Games Festival Triumph

Catnip and Chaos: ‘Astro Burn’ Hits Steam Early Access After London Games Festival Triumph

The “cute-em-up” is back, and it’s arriving with a hiss and a roar. London-based developer Beyond The Pixels and indie publisher Pixel Doors have officially unleashed Astro Burn into Early Access on Steam.

Following a standout performance as an Official Selection at the London Games Festival 2026, where it drew crowds to the New Game Plus showcase, this neon-soaked side-scroller is already generating major buzz. If you’ve been missing the “bonkers” energy of 90s arcade classics like Parodius or Pop’n TwinBee, Astro Burn is the love letter you’ve been waiting for.

Meet Astro: The Sassy Space Cat

In Astro Burn, you take control of Astro, a space-faring feline trying to find her way home across a vibrant, hostile galaxy. Accompanied by her trusty (and surprisingly resilient) robot companion, Astro must blast through waves of enemies that are as adorable as they are deadly.

The game features 10 diverse levels, ranging from the cold vacuum of deep space to underwater realms and sprawling futuristic cities. But don’t let the “cute” aesthetic fool you—this is a bullet-hell experience with teeth.

    Key Gameplay Features

    • Stackable Weaponry: Unlike traditional shooters, where you swap guns, Astro Burn encourages you to collect and fire everything at once. The “stack-em-up” system turns your ship into a screen-clearing engine of destruction.
    • Catnip-Powered Chaos: Trigger “Catnip Special Powers” to unleash anime-style finishing moves—essentially the feline equivalent of a “Meodoooken.”
    • Local & Competitive Co-op: Grab a friend for couch co-op. You can work together to survive or compete for the highest score to prove who the superior space cat truly is.
    • Retro Authenticity: From the Venice Bleach soundtrack to the classic three-letter initial leaderboard, the game oozes 90s arcade nostalgia.

A New Breed of Developer & Publisher

The brains behind the operation is HaZ Dulull, a veteran of the film and TV industry (Hellboy II, The Dark Knight) turned game director. His cinematic background is evident in the game’s “transmedia” vision, blending tight gameplay with a narrative that hints at a much larger mystery regarding Earth’s downfall.

Partnering with Pixel Doors, a publisher founded on an “Ethical & Sustainable” model, the launch represents a shift in how indie games reach the market. Pixel Doors operates on a “Developer Eats First” policy, ensuring creators like Beyond The Pixels® retain their IP and creative control.

“What HaZ and the team experienced at the London Games Festival is exactly why we do this,” says Jacek Pudlik, Co-Founder of Pixel Doors. “It captures the addictive chaos of classic arcade shooters but welcomes everyone to the party.”

    Jump Into the Fire

Astro Burn is available NOW on Steam for PC and Mac. As an Early Access title, the developers are actively looking for player feedback to shape the road to full release.

  • Deckbuilding Meets Cosmic Horror: Voice of Belldona Hits Steam This May

Deckbuilding Meets Cosmic Horror: Voice of Belldona Hits Steam This May

Prepare to step into a world where cosmic instability isn’t just a background detail—it’s a way of life. Developer Storycrop and publisher Okasan’s Recipe have officially announced that their highly anticipated sci-fantasy roguelike deckbuilder, Voice of Belldona, will be launching on PC via Steam on May 20th, 2026.

If you are a fan of Slay the Spire but wish it had a darker, Warhammer 40K-inspired aesthetic mixed with JRPG flair, this is definitely one to add to your wishlist.

    A World on the Brink

In Voice of Belldona, humanity’s last-ditch effort to save a collapsing universe resulted in the creation of a white-haired, godlike girl with overwhelming power. The catch? She has a massive case of social anxiety. As players navigate the Vortex Zone, they’ll take on the role of this unlikely saviour, summoning allies and forming tactical battle lines to tear through cosmic horrors and corrupted machines.

    Tactical Depth and High Stakes

This isn’t your average “play cards and win” deckbuilder. The game places a heavy emphasis on positioning and timing. Key features include:

    • Dual Protagonists: Choose between heroes like Rinsana, who dashes head-first into the fray, or Griza, who commands the field with powerful summons.
    • Dynamic Deckbuilding: Every path you take in the Vortex Zone alters the cards you can obtain, meaning no two runs are ever the same.
    • Tactical Formations: Your position on the battlefield matters just as much as the cards in your hand.
    • Dark Cosmic Aesthetic: Encounter everything from twisted robots to “winged god-engines” in a beautifully bleak sci-fantasy setting.

“Every choice reshapes your build, and every build opens new ways to outsmart the void.”

    Ready for Launch

After a successful closed beta and a highly-rated demo that garnered “Very Positive” feedback from the community, the full release promises expanded content, refined gameplay systems, and a deeper progression path.

The countdown is on. Will you be the one to reach the True Ending and survive the folding reality? Mark your calendars for May 20th and head over to the Voice of Belldona Steam page to wishlist it now.

  • Put Out the Fire or Fuel the Flames? OCTOPinbs Arrives This May!

Put Out the Fire or Fuel the Flames? OCTOPinbs Arrives This May!

The indie scene is about to get a whole lot hotter—and a bit more suspicious. During the INDIE Live Expo 2026.4.25, co-developers tri-Ace and Lasengle, Inc., alongside publisher Aniplex, dropped a bombshell for fans of social deception: OCTOPinbs is officially launching on PC via Steam on Monday, May 11, 2026.

If you thought Among Us was tense, try sussing out a traitor while the very floor beneath you is turning into an inferno.

    What is OCTOPinbs?

At its core, OCTOPinbs is a firefighting social deduction game for 3 to 10 players. You play as a team of adorable Octopus firefighters tasked with extinguishing a massive blaze in a multi-story building.

However, there’s a catch. Hidden among your crew are “Pinbs” (that’s “Squid” reversed and flipped—because you can’t even trust their names). These “Artist” saboteurs want nothing more than to watch the world burn. Literally.

    Key Gameplay Mechanics

The game blends real-time action with the classic “who-done-it” paranoia we’ve come to love:

    • Extinguish vs. Ignite: Firefighters must work together to bring the fire gauge to 0%. Meanwhile, the Pinbs are secretly setting new fires, aiming to max out the gauge or eliminate all firefighters.
    • The Art of Sabotage: Pinbs can use “Squid Art” to blend in, sabotage equipment, or even ditch their firefighter disguise for a mobility boost to wreak havoc.
    • Real-Time Combat: Unlike many social deduction games, there are no “meetings” here. Everything happens in real-time. If you suspect someone, you can attack them with your hose or hatchet.
    • The Octojar: Think you’ve caught the traitor? Reduce their HP to zero and drag them to the Octojar to reveal their true form and eliminate them from the match.
    • Environmental Hazards: As the fire spreads, the building decays. Floors collapse, and staircases vanish, forcing you to jump between levels to stay ahead of the flames.

    A Star-Studded Indie Collaboration

What makes OCTOPinbs particularly interesting is the pedigree behind it. tri-Ace (famed for Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile) and Lasengle (known for Fate/Grand Order) are lending their expertise to this indie project. To top it off, the latest trailer revealed at the Expo features narration by the legendary voice actor Shigeru Chiba, known for his high-energy roles in Dragon Ball and One Piece.

“Since first revealing OCTOPinbs, the team has joyfully read fans’ excitement to call each other’s blazing bluffs. We hope you look forward to fighting fires as OCTOs and sowing chaos as the trickster Pinbs next month.” — Aniplex Statement

    Launch Details

    • Platform: PC via Steam
    • Release Date: Monday, May 11, 2026
    • Price: $9.99 USD
    • Language Support: Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Portuguese, German, Korean, Spanish, and French.

Whether you’re a hero with a hose or a master of the matchstick, OCTOPinbs looks set to be the next big party game of 2026. Be sure to wishlist it now to prepare for the heat!

  • All About the Benjamins: Gold Gold Adventure Gold Hits Version 1.0 This May!

All About the Benjamins: Gold Gold Adventure Gold Hits Version 1.0 This May!

If you’ve ever played a colony sim and thought, “This is great, but I wish I could just bribe people to do the hard work for me,” then your golden hour has arrived. Indie developer Can Can Can a Man has officially announced that their quirky, treasure-obsessed management RPG, Gold Gold Adventure Gold, is leaving Early Access for its full 1.0 release on May 15th, 2026!

After a successful stint in Early Access that began in mid-2025, the game is ready to deliver its “golden” finale.

What is Gold Gold Adventure Gold?

For the uninitiated, this game is a chaotic blend of Majesty, Cult of the Lamb, and a sprinkle of Black & White. You aren’t a traditional hero swinging a sword; instead, you are a gold-hungry overseer building a town right next to a monster-infested dungeon.

The catch? You have no direct control over your units. Instead, you must use the universal language of wealth to get things done.

    • Bribe and Recruit: Entice humans, beastmen, and even “mothmen” to your town with the promise of loot.
    • Indirect Influence: You don’t tell an adventurer to “go kill that dragon.” You place a quest marker with a fat stack of gold on it and wait for the greediest warrior to take the bait.
    • The God-Beast: You also get to raise a “God-Beast”—a pet that grows from a small snack-stealer into a massive companion that can either protect your town or, if you’re feeling spicy, eat the adventurers who fail you.

What’s New for the Full Release?

The jump to 1.0 on May 15th isn’t just a label change. The developer has teased a massive content drop to celebrate the graduation from Early Access:

    • A Major Boss Fight: Test your town’s defences (and your adventurers’ courage) against a new endgame threat.
    • New Pet God-Beast: More variety in how you raise and evolve your divine companion.
    • Secret Special Missions: Brand new narrative-driven objectives that go beyond the standard “kill and collect” loop.
    • Polished Economy: Refined tax systems and building upgrades to ensure your coffers never truly run dry.

    Why You Should Care

Techmash fans know we love a good “reverse RPG” hook. Gold Gold Adventure Gold succeeds because it treats adventurers like the flighty, gold-driven mercenaries they actually are. Managing their needs—from building them taverns to making sure the quest rewards are high enough to justify the risk of death—is a satisfyingly addictive loop.

“The only thing adventurers love more than glory… is GOLD!” — Can Can Can a Man

Mark your calendars for May 15th. Whether you’re a fan of management sims or just want to see how big your God-Beast can get before it starts eyeing the local baker, this is one indie release you shouldn’t miss.

Gold Gold Adventure Gold will be available on PC via Steam. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we get closer to launch!

  • The Ultimate Flip: House Flipper Remastered Collection Arrives June 4th!

The Ultimate Flip: House Flipper Remastered Collection Arrives June 4th!

Dust off your hammers and grab your tool belts, because the definitive renovation experience is almost here. Frozen Way has officially announced that the House Flipper Remastered Collection is launching on June 4th, 2026.

Whether you’re a veteran flipper who knows every stain in the “Burned House” or a newcomer looking to make your first virtual profit, this collection is shaping up to be the crown jewel of the simulation genre.

    What’s in the Box?

This isn’t just a simple resolution bump. Frozen Way has rebuilt the foundation of the original 2018 hit to bring it up to modern standards. The Remastered Collection is a “one-stop shop” that bundles the base game with all 10 original DLCs—including Garden, Luxury, Pets, and Farm—into one unified, high-fidelity experience.

    Key Features at a Glance:

    • Next-Gen Visuals: Featuring Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI) and high-fidelity textures. Say goodbye to that infamous “yellow tint” on the ceilings—the lighting is now majestic and realistic.
    • The “Heart” Expansion: 6 brand-new story-driven jobs focused on emotional narratives, plus over 800 new items ranging from rustic fireplaces to modern sofas.
    • Full Voice Acting: Every client now has a voice, adding a layer of personality and immersion to your renovation contracts.
    • Quality of Life Overhaul: A modernised tool selection wheel, a “Favourites” tab for furniture, and an improved snapping system for doors and frames.
    • Performance Stability: Significant optimisations to FPS and memory, plus a fix for those pesky save-file “hitches” from years past.

    Platform Availability & Pricing

The collection is making a simultaneous jump across all major current-gen platforms. You can pick it up starting June 4th on:

    • PC (Steam)
    • PlayStation 5 / Pro
    • Xbox Series S/X

The base price is set at $49.99 USD, but Frozen Way is looking out for its community. If you already own the original House Flipper and its DLCs, keep an eye out for loyalty discounts that could bring the upgrade price down to around $20.

“We had to build a completely new foundation… every mop swipe, every freshly painted wall, and every item placed feels smoother and more rewarding.” — Frozen Way Development Team

    Why Return to the Original?

While House Flipper 2 has been making waves with its sandbox building tools, the Remastered Collection focuses on the charm and massive content library that made the first game a cult classic. By merging every expansion into one technical powerhouse, it offers the most “complete” flipping career ever put to screen.

Are you ready to turn those dilapidated shacks into dream homes once again? Mark your calendars for June 4th—it’s time to get flipping!

  • The Light Must Never Go Out: ShoreTiles Announced for 2026

The Light Must Never Go Out: ShoreTiles Announced for 2026

If you enjoy the methodical satisfaction of tile-placement but occasionally feel like your city-builders lack a sense of impending doom, keep your eyes on ShoreTiles.

VOXEL Studios and Noovola Publishing have officially pulled back the curtain on their latest project: an atmospheric, “gloomy” tile-placement strategy game set to haunt Steam for PC in 2026. Following their successful collaboration on The Bench, the duo is leaning into a darker, more tactical experience that blends calm construction with a desperate fight for survival.

Build by Day, Survive by Night

In ShoreTiles, you are tasked with expanding a solitary island settlement centred around a fragile, glowing lighthouse. The catch? The lighthouse is the only thing keeping the encroaching darkness at bay.

The gameplay loop is divided into two distinct phases:

    • The Golden Hour: Use a randomised deck of tiles to expand your territory. You’ll need to connect matching terrain types and position buildings—like settlements, farms, and military camps—to optimise your economy and reach.
    • The Deep Night: When the sun sets, the “unseen threat” emerges. Twisted, silent creatures rise from the depths, drawn to the light. Your survival depends entirely on how well you placed your military tiles and fortified your walls during the day.

    High Stakes and Permanent Choices

Unlike many modern builders that offer a “cosy” escape, ShoreTiles is built on the weight of permanence. There is no undo button. Every tile you lay is a permanent part of your island’s history, meaning a single lapse in judgment during the peaceful daylight hours could lead to total collapse once the fog rolls in.

“With ShoreTiles, we wanted to create something that feels calm and welcoming at first glance, but slowly reveals a constant sense of pressure,” says Daniele Amabili, Game Designer at VOXEL Studios.

    Key Features at a Glance

    FeatureDescription
Procedural IslandsNo two runs are the same; every deck and island layout is unique.
Strategic CombosConnect specific tiles to trigger bonuses and bolster your defense.
Progress MapDiscover relics, gold chests, and new building types left by those who came before.
Atmospheric DesignA 1960s-inspired coastal aesthetic that balances beauty with dread.

    Coming to Steam in 2026

While we have a bit of a wait before we can start placing tiles, the haunting teaser trailer (which recently debuted on IGN and YouTube) suggests a game that is as much about the “vibe” as it is about the math.

If you’re a fan of Dorfromantik but wish it had a bit more Lovecraftian horror and defensive strategy, this is definitely one for the wishlist.

Check out ShoreTiles on Steam to stay updated on the 2026 launch.

Does the idea of a “non-cosy” city builder stress you out, or are you ready to defend the lighthouse?

  • High Stakes, Small Planets: OBLITACRATER Launches Today on PS5, Xbox, and Steam!

High Stakes, Small Planets: OBLITACRATER Launches Today on PS5, Xbox, and Steam!

The wait for the ultimate “just one more round” arcade fix is over. Indie developer Strangely Named has officially launched their high-octane twin-stick shooter, OBLITACRATER, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Simultaneously, the game has shed its Early Access wings for a full 1.0 release on Steam.

If you’re a fan of classic arcade shooters but crave the tension of modern roguelikes, this is one to keep on your radar.

Risk vs. Reward: The Core Loop

OBLITACRATER takes place on a beautifully stylised, spherical 3D planet where the goal is deceptively simple: get the highest score possible. Every “drop” onto the surface adds to a single, continuous running score. You can escape at any time by hitting the “Big Red Button,” locking in your points and securing your spot on the leaderboards. But here’s the kicker: if you die, your entire running score—and your leaderboard position—resets to zero.

It turns every single encounter into a high-stakes gamble. Do you push for one more wave to break into the top 10, or do you tuck tail and live to fight another day?

    Key Features at a Glance:

    • Infinite Waves: Battle through 10 distinct (and strangely cute) alien species that grow increasingly deadly.
    • Massive Arsenal: Choose from 50 unique upgrades, ranging from stat boosts to secondary fire modes like lasers, mines, and rockets.
    • Unpredictable Upgrades: Feeling lucky? Random upgrades can give you a massive edge or a “buggy” handicap that turns the screen into a pixelated mess.
    • Dead Run Mode: For the true masochists—one hit and it’s game over.
    • Spherical Combat: Smooth, fast-paced traversal on a 3D planet that supports hundreds of enemies on screen at once.

    From the Developer

Developer Sen expressed excitement about the multi-platform launch:

“We’re thrilled for players to drop into OBLITACRATER and start climbing the leaderboards. We’ll be right there with you, chasing that number one spot. And once you’ve got the hang of things, jump into Dead Run mode, where the real challenge begins!”

    Where to Play

Whether you’re a console devotee or a PC purist, you can jump into the crater right now. The 1.0 release brings refined gameplay, a polished UI, and full controller support to ensure that every dodge and shot feels pixel-perfect.

    • PC: Available now on Steam
    • PlayStation 5: Check the PlayStation Store
    • Xbox Series X|S: Available via the Xbox Store

  • Steal Fast or Die Trying: LAG KILLS Joins the Wishlisted 2026 Lineup

Steal Fast or Die Trying: LAG KILLS Joins the Wishlisted 2026 Lineup

If you think your last-ranked match was stressful, wait until you see how Deranged Games is turning “lag” into a literal death sentence. The upcoming indie survival horror title, LAG KILLS, has officially joined the Wishlisted 2026 showcase, cementing its place as one of the most anticipated indie gems to watch this year.

In a gaming landscape that’s feeling a bit “reset” lately, LAG KILLS is bringing some much-needed adrenaline to the PC scene.

The Premise: Desperation Meets Dark Rooms

The story hits close to home—perhaps too close. You aren’t a super-soldier or a monster hunter; you’re someone crushed by medical debt after a life-altering car accident. Desperate to pay the bills, you and a friend decide to burglarise a “vacant” home for a quick score.

Spoiler alert: The house is definitely not empty.

What follows is a high-stakes game of cat and mouse where the owner isn’t just home—they are actively hunting you with a terrifying, adaptive AI that reacts to every floorboard creak and fumbled item.

    Key Features of the Chaos

    • Reactive AI: This isn’t a scripted horror jump-scare fest. The AI hunts based on sound and player behaviour. If you’re loud, you’re dead.
    • Co-op or Solo Survival: You can tackle the heist alone or bring a partner in online co-op. Just remember: in co-op, your friend’s clumsy footsteps are just as likely to get you killed as your own.
    • Dynamic Scenarios: Every run is unpredictable. The layout and enemy behaviour shift, making “learning the map” a lot harder than it looks.
    • The Cat: Yes, you can pet and feed the cat. In a game this tense, you’re going to need the dopamine hit.

    Why It’s a “Wishlisted” Standout

The Wishlisted 2026 initiative has become a vital spotlight for indie developers on Steam, and LAG KILLS fits the vibe perfectly. It blends the tactical tension of a stealth game with the psychological weight of survival horror.

Developed by Lee Burton (who famously conceived the idea out of pure frustration with lag in competitive gaming), the game turns technical annoyance into atmospheric dread.

“You came for a quick score. Something else is waiting for you inside.”

    Coming Soon to Steam

While we don’t have a firm release date beyond the 2026 window, the buzz around the Wishlisted showcase suggests we’ll be seeing more of this dark, atmospheric first-person experience very soon.

Our Advice? Add it to your Steam wishlist now. Just don’t blame your internet connection when things go south—in this game, the “lag” is coming from inside the house.

Stay tuned to TechMash for more updates on LAG KILLS and the rest of the 2026 indie lineup.

  • From Skylanders to Deep Space: Voidling Bound Set for June 9 Launch

From Skylanders to Deep Space: Voidling Bound Set for June 9 Launch

The team that once brought toys to life is now bringing alien monsters to your PC. Hatchery Games, a studio founded by veterans from the Skylanders franchise (specifically hailing from Beenox), has officially entered the final development stretch for their debut title: Voidling Bound.

Mark your calendars—this sci-fi creature-collecting ARPG is slated to warp onto Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 9, 2026.

    Reinventing the Monster Tamer

If you’re expecting a cosy turn-based stroll through tall grass, think again. Voidling Bound is a high-octane third-person shooter that puts you in the boots of a “Space Wrangler.” Instead of just commanding your creatures from the sidelines, you form a neural bond and take direct control of your Voidlings in fast-paced combat.

Humanity is on the brink of extinction thanks to a nasty interstellar parasite, and these Voidlings are our only hope for a “Plan B.” You’ll be tasked with cleansing vibrant, handcrafted planets of corruption by shooting, slashing, and slamming your way through “bubonic” swarms.

    Deep Evolution and Customisation

Drawing on their experience with character-driven gameplay, the devs at Hatchery Games are going all-in on customisation:

    • Branching Evolution: There are 62 species paths to explore. Your choices affect elemental alignment, appearance, and combat abilities.
    • The Splicing Station: This is where things get truly “mad scientist.” You can mix and match body parts, colours, and eye genes, while equipping “Ability Genes” to create synergies that the devs describe as potentially “game-breaking.”
    • Breeding System: Hatchlings inherit attributes from their parents, allowing you to min-max your squad for the endgame challenges.

The Final Push: Try the Updated Demo

With the June 9 release date looming, Hatchery Games recently updated their PC demo on Steam. If you want a head start, the good news is that progress carries over to the full game.

    The latest version includes:

    • An updated animated narrative opening.
    • The new Gilick’s Cryo Branch area.
    • Significant performance optimisations to ensure those alien explosions look crisp.

“We wanted to reinvent the monster-taming genre by giving players the power to be the creature,” the studio shared in a recent developer update.

While the PC launch is the immediate priority, Hatchery Games has confirmed that versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2 are planned to follow later.

Ready to start your collection? You can wishlist Voidling Bound on Steam now and prepare for the parasite purge this June.

Are you excited to see a more action-oriented take on the creature-collection genre?

    What’s New in the Sequel?

While the original SpeedRunners was defined by its tight 2D mechanics and frantic four-player races, King of Speed is scaling everything up. Here is what we can expect when we hit the tracks this summer:

    • 8-Player Chaos: For the first time, you can now race against seven other rivals (local or online), doubling the screen-shrinking intensity.
    • Vibrant New Visuals: The game has moved to a high-definition style with 3D backgrounds, all while maintaining the 2D “retrofuture superhero” aesthetic inspired by the 1960s.
    • Refined Gameplay: Advanced techniques like slope jumping and wall grappling are back. Fair Play Labs has worked closely with original creators DoubleDutch Games to ensure the physics feel as snappy as fans remember.
    • Better Netcode: A major focus has been placed on improving the online experience to handle the increased player count without lag ruining your perfectly timed freeze ray.

    Platforms & Future Tech

While the “Big Three” and PC are getting the game in July, tinyBuild also teased that the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, making it one of the early competitive titles confirmed for Nintendo’s next-gen hardware.

“SpeedRunners was the game that kickstarted tinyBuild’s publishing journey 12 years ago, and we are thrilled to breathe new life into this timeless franchise.” — Alex Nichiporchik, CEO of tinyBuild

    Can’t Wait Until July?

If your grappling hook finger is already itching, a free demo is currently available on Steam. The developers have been actively patching the demo based on community feedback, recently balancing the speed and acceleration to find that “Goldilocks” zone between the original’s feel and the sequel’s new momentum.

Whether you’re a veteran Falcon main or a newcomer looking to knock your friends off-screen, July is looking like a very fast month.

Will you be picking this up on Game Pass or grabbing the Switch version for local sessions? Let us know in the comments!

  • The sci-fi deckbuilding adventure Echo Generation 2 will release on May 27th

The sci-fi deckbuilding adventure Echo Generation 2 will release on May 27th

The portal to Maple Town might be closed, but the galaxy is wide open. Toronto-based indie veterans Cococucumber have officially announced that their highly anticipated sequel, Echo Generation 2, will warp onto PC and consoles on May 27, 2026.

Revealed during a high-octane trailer at the latest ID@Xbox x IGN Showcase, the sequel takes the charming, voxel-art foundations of the 2021 original and blasts them into a cosmic, dimension-hopping odyssey.

    From Suburbs to Supernovas

While the first game captured the Stranger Things-esque magic of being a kid in the 90s, Echo Generation 2 shifts the perspective to a more personal, high-stakes story. Players take on the role of Jack, an ex-special ops agent turned family man who finds himself trapped in a fractured reality.

Jack isn’t alone, though. The sequel features a multi-perspective narrative spanning several character-focused chapters:

    • Annata Z: A mother searching for her child in a planetary wasteland.
    • Noliva & Strix: A bounty-hunting duo navigating a neon-soaked cyberpunk city.
    • Sister M: A psychic teenager (familiar to those who played the recent Steam demo) escaping a shadowy research facility.
    • Bulder: A mischievous extra-terrestrial creature looking for a way home.

Shuffling the Deck: New Combat Mechanics

The biggest departure for the sequel is the move from traditional turn-based RPG battles to a dynamic deckbuilding system. Cococucumber is promising a deep strategy with over 150 unique cards to collect.

You’ll be able to nuke eldritch horrors with powerful card combos, summon quirky allies for assists, and manage shield buffs to survive the “Kaiju-sized” bosses the series is known for. It’s a bold evolution that adds a layer of tactical depth to the signature voxel-crunchy aesthetic.

    Key Features at a Glance:

Visual StyleEnhanced Voxel Art with 80s/90s sci-fi film inspiration
SoundtrackAll-new cosmic synth score by Pusher

    Final Thoughts

Cococucumber has a knack for blending nostalgia with modern polish—as seen in Riverbond and Ravenlok—but Echo Generation 2 looks to be their most ambitious project yet. By trading the “humble Maple Town” for a galactic scale, they’re leaning hard into the “sci-fi” half of the RPG genre.

“Echo Generation 2 expands the world… into a galactic-wide sci-fi odyssey, a homage to our love for 80s and 90s sci-fi films,” says Vanessa Chia, co-founder of Cococucumber.

Whether you’re in it for the tactical card synergies or just want to vibe to some 80s-inspired synth while fighting space gremlins, May 27th can’t come soon enough.

You can wishlist Echo Generation 2 now on Steam and the Xbox Store.

  • Return to Jadame: The Temple Faction Official Full Reveal

Return to Jadame: The Temple Faction Official Full Reveal

The long-awaited revival of the king of turn-based strategy is nearly upon us. With Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era set to hit Early Access on April 30, 2026, developer Unfrozen and publisher Hooded Horse have pulled back the curtain on the cornerstone of the franchise: The Temple.

For those who have spent decades perfecting their Castle builds in HoMM3, the Temple feels like a warm, albeit heavily armoured, homecoming. Set on the continent of Jadame, this faction represents the classic “holy knight” archetype—but with new tactical wrinkles that ensure it’s not just a relic of the past.

The Roster: Divine Might and Disciplined Steel

The Temple remains the go-to faction for players who value a balanced, sturdy army with strong ranged support and late-game powerhouses. Here is a look at the key units that define this faction:

    • Crossbowmen: The backbone of your early game. When upgraded, these marksmen can fire twice, making them lethal when paired with the right hero buffs.
    • Lightweavers: Magical support units that provide essential utility on the battlefield.
    • Gryphons: The iconic aerial unit returns with its signature mobility. Their “Take Flight” ability allows them to strike any unit on the board and return to their original position, bypassing counterattacks.
    • Priestesses: Specialised casters who scale in power based on the number of active buffs on your units.
    • Angels: The ultimate Tier 7 unit. Beyond their raw stats, they possess a unique synergy where they gain buffs from your Marksmen, creating a “chain” of power across your formation.

    Zenith: The Commander of Light

While the Temple boasts 18 heroes to choose from, Zenith has emerged as the standout choice for the Early Access launch.

Pro Tip: Zenith starts with Lightweavers in her army from Day 1. Her signature spell, Heavenly Blade, adds significant flat damage to your units—perfect for early-game clearing when cast on a stack of double-shot Crossbowmen.

Faction Mechanics: The Art of the Buff

The Temple’s playstyle revolves around synergy and sustain. Unlike the glass-cannon nature of the Dungeon or the swarm tactics of the Hive, the Temple thrives when its units stand together.

    • Buff Chaining: Many Temple units benefit from being positioned near one another or having active enchantments.
    • Tactical Resilience: While their melee units might lack the flashy tricks of the Schism or Necropolis, they are built to last. High defence and healing capabilities make them the hardest army to grind down in a long siege.

    Why It Matters

Olden Era is positioning itself as a “back-to-roots” entry, heavily inspired by the mechanics of the legendary third game but modernised for 2026. With Jon Van Caneghem (the series’ original creator) serving as a creative advisor and a soundtrack by Paul Romero, the Temple reveal confirms that the soul of the series is intact.

Whether you’re a veteran of the Erathian wars or a newcomer looking to lead a crusade across Jadame, the Temple offers a disciplined, powerful, and visually stunning entry point into this new era of Might and Magic.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era launches on Steam and the Microsoft Store on April 30, 2026.

Are you planning to lead the Temple’s holy crusade, or does the corruption of the Necropolis call to you more?

  • Victor’s Video Vault, a horror game set inside a 1995 video rental store

Victor’s Video Vault, a horror game set inside a 1995 video rental store

Stingbot Games, the California-based indie studio known for Keeper’s Toll, has officially pulled back the curtain on its most ambitious project yet. Prepare to clock into the graveyard shift from hell in Victor’s Video Vault, a first-person horror experience that transports players back to the neon-soaked, analogue world of 1995.

For anyone who remembers the tactile satisfaction of browsing VHS shelves or the eerie quiet of a late-night rental store, this game is aiming right for the nostalgic jugular—with a reality-bending twist.

The Premise: Be Kind, Rewind… or Die

In Victor’s Video Vault, you play as a solitary night-shift employee at a local video rental shop. Your duties start simple enough: stock the shelves, assist the occasional customer, and prepare for closing. However, once the final customer leaves and the doors are locked, the routine evaporates.

The game’s hook is as clever as it is terrifying: The final rental of the night rewrites reality. Depending on the film that just left the store, the environment begins to fracture and transform. The genre of the movie dictates the nightmare you’ll face, turning a grounded 90s setting into an unstable, unpredictable death trap where the store itself becomes the antagonist.

    Key Features to Watch For:

    • Dynamic Reality: The layout, physics, and behaviour of the store shift every night as the “video vault” breaks down.
    • Survival Investigation: You aren’t just hiding; you’ll need to solve environmental puzzles to figure out the shifting rules of your new reality to survive until morning.
    • Retro Aesthetic: Stingbot is leaning heavily into a “lo-fi” look, featuring hand-crafted pixel textures over low-poly models to perfectly capture that gritty, mid-90s atmosphere.
    • Deleted Scenes: As reality fractures, players can discover hidden rooms and “deleted scenes” that reveal the dark secrets lurking beneath the shop.

A Love Letter to the Analogue Era

There is something inherently spooky about old media—the tracking lines on a VHS tape, the muffled audio, and the physical labyrinth of plastic cases. Stingbot Games is tapping into the “analogue horror” trend that has exploded recently, but by adding a layer of procedural reality-shifting, they are offering something much more dynamic than a standard walking simulator.

“Each night is shaped by the film that just left the building, transforming the environment into something unstable, unpredictable, and increasingly dangerous.” — Stingbot Games

    When Can We Play?

While a specific release date hasn’t been nailed down just yet, Victor’s Video Vault is officially confirmed for PC. You can already find the game on Steam to add it to your wishlist and stay updated on the inevitable release of a gameplay trailer.

If you’ve been looking for a game that captures the vibe of a 90s slasher mixed with the surrealism of Control, keep your eyes on this one. Just remember: there’s a stiff fee for returning a tape late… but that might be the least of your worries at Victor’s.

Will you be checking out Victor’s Video Vault? Let us know in the comments if you miss the days of VHS or if you’re strictly a streaming fan!
