Viessmann Vitodens boiler could reduce bills and carbon emissions

Viessmann has introduced a new premium gas-condensing boiler suited to energy-conscious homeowners looking for the convenience of an app-operated boiler.

The Vitodens 100-W, manufactured to a high standard in Germany, has WiFi built inside, meaning it can be completely controlled remotely, via Smartphone or tablet, when used in conjunction with Viessmann’s ViCare Thermostat and ViCare control system app. All the functionalities of popular third-party smart thermostats, and much more, are included with the boiler at no extra cost.

The boiler’s advanced control platform means that the customer’s heating engineer can be notified if settings need adjusting or parts need replacing. They can also assist customers remotely, without needing to visit the property.

Thanks to Viessmann’s unique MatriX-Plus burner technology, its boilers run very fuel-efficiently, reducing bills and greenhouse gas emissions. Lambda Pro automated combustion control technology helps the Vitodens 100-W to be capable of running with a hydrogen mix of up to 20%, preparing for the expected introduction of hydrogen to the UK gas grid at some point in the future.

“The new Vitodens 100-W boiler, with its completely new control platform, is the most up-to-date specification on the market. With WiFi inside the boiler, it is a truly smart machine, enabling live interfaces and full control for both the installer and end-user. All this functionality is free and included in the boiler,” says Graham Russell, managing director at Viessmann UK.

Viessmann, also a pioneer of renewable heating systems including heat pumps and solar, is one of Europe’s biggest heating brands. Already in 2021 it has triumphed in the heating category of Germany’s Haustec magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards. German heating engineers have voted Viessmann the No. 1 trade partner for the 16th time in a row!

ViCare app for remote monitoring and control

Households with the new Vitodens 100-W will appreciate the convenience of being able to control the boiler and heating system remotely. This is made possible by integrating Wi-Fi into the boiler for connectivity with Viessmann’s ViCare Thermostat and ViCare control system app. The app is available for both iOS devices and Android devices, meaning the heating system can be operated via smartphone or tablet as well as on the boiler’s intuitive touchscreen display.

ViCare shows at a glance whether everything is working as it should be and confirms this with an overall status summary at the top of the ‘home’ view. In the event of the system needing professional attention, the app automatically notifies the user’s designated heating engineer. The engineer can also remotely access and make adjustments to the boiler and heating system.

The ViCare app enables boiler users to save costs when they’re not at home – or perhaps when they find they will be getting back home later than previously expected – by setting the desired temperature with just one click. Heating times can also be adjusted to suit individual requirements, with the preferred daily routine saved automatically. And to monitor how settings affect gas consumption, cost savings are shown instantly.

Exceptionally efficient MatriX-Plus burner and Lambda Pro combustion control

For economic and environmental benefits, the new-generation Vitodens 100-W employs a new MatriX-Plus burner and new Lambda Pro automatic combustion control. These technologies ensure low fuel consumption with low NOx and CO2 emissions, as well as low maintenance costs.

The MatriX-Plus burner’s stainless steel MatriX perforation ensures a long service life. With a high modulation range of up to 1:10 and with optimal flame stability, the burner precisely meets the building’s heat demand with a minimal number of fuel-burning start-ups and cycles.

Viessmann’s Lambda Pro combustion control ensures reliable and clean operation even when gas quality fluctuates by detecting and adjusting to the gas type. Lambda Pro will also ensure the boiler continues to operate reliably and efficiently if, as seems possible in future, the UK gas grid supplies a blend comprised of up to 80% natural gas and 20% hydrogen to reduce carbon emissions. The combustion control also automatically adjusts for mains voltage fluctuations.

The Vitodens 100-W’s efficiency can be further enhanced with the addition of weather compensation controls. By automatically increasing or decreasing the radiator temperature when the temperature changes outside, weather compensation ensures the boiler burns no more fuel than the exact amount required to match the heat lost from the building. This significantly improves efficiency under partial load conditions and reduces annual fuel bills by up to 15% as it is a proactive, rather than reactive, heating control.
