Into the Void Alone: SpaceCraft Launches Highly Anticipated Offline Solo Mode

Interstellar pioneers, it is time to recalibrate your warp drives. If you have been itching to conquer the cosmos without the distraction of rival corporations or multiplayer chaos, your coordinates have just been locked.

Shiro Games has officially rolled out one of the community’s most requested features for its hit space sandbox, SpaceCraft: a true, fully optimised Offline Solo Mode. Less than a month after its stellar debut in Steam Early Access, the French studio behind hits like Northgard and Wartales has proven they are listening closely to player feedback.

    The Universe is Yours, Literally

Originally launched as an online-only, persistent multiplayer galaxy, SpaceCraft captivated sci-fi fans with its seamless blend of exploration, modular shipbuilding, and deep industrial automation. However, for those who prefer the quiet, atmospheric isolation of deep space, the requirement to always be online was a barrier.

With this latest update, you can now experience humanity’s next frontier completely independently.

“Players who want to experience SpaceCraft at their own pace can now explore the galaxy entirely offline,” said Nicolas Cannasse, CEO of Shiro Games. “The game’s progression, balancing, and core systems have been adapted to provide a smooth and rewarding solo experience while preserving the depth and freedom that define SpaceCraft.”

    What Changes in Solo Mode?

Stepping into the void alone doesn’t mean you are getting a watered-down experience. Shiro Games has meticulously rebalanced the core mechanics to ensure that a single player can realistically manage a galactic empire.

    • Tailored Progression: Resource gathering, crafting timelines, and progression curves have been adjusted so the late-game loop feels satisfying rather than an endless, MMO-style grind.
    • Total Focus on Industry: With online-exclusive systems like global corporation rankings disabled, every piece of rare mineral you mine and every credit you earn goes directly into expanding your personal empire.
    • True Offline Play: No internet? No problem. You can now design your modular ships and map out trade routes from anywhere.

From Humble Outpost to Interstellar Enterprise

For the uninitiated, SpaceCraft is a dream come true for fans of deep engineering and logistics simulators. The gameplay lets you start with a modest planetary outpost and gradually build out massive automated manufacturing networks. You’ll draft complex logistics pipelines to ferry components across different planets, optimise supply lines, and engineer custom spacecraft block-by-block to fit your specific needs—whether that’s a heavily armoured cargo haulier or a nimble exploration vessel.

The fact that Shiro Games has delivered such a massive architectural shift to the game so early in its Early Access journey bodes incredibly well for its future development.

SpaceCraft is available right now on PC via Steam Early Access for £24.99 / $29.99 / €29,99. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect excuse to lose yourself in a massive, system-driven sci-fi sandbox entirely on your own terms, this is it.

  • Pump Up the Volume: SEAR Reinvents Anti-Gravity Racing as a Playable Music Video

Pump Up the Volume: SEAR Reinvents Anti-Gravity Racing as a Playable Music Video

If you miss the high-octane, futuristic thrills of Wipeout or F-Zero but want something that feels entirely fresh, keep your eyes on Temerity Games. The indie studio has just unveiled SEAR, a high-speed anti-gravity racing game that takes audio-reactive gameplay to a whole new level.

In SEAR, you aren’t just racing to a soundtrack—you are racing inside it.

    Where Beats Meet Broadside Corners

Every single track in SEAR is procedurally built around the structure of a specific song. As the music evolves, the course transforms in real-time right in front of your ship.

Imagine pushing 500 mph down a neon straightaway during a melodic verse, only for the track to twist into a dizzying corkscrew the exact moment the bass drops. Temerity Games describes the experience as turning each level into a living, breathing music video that players can actively race through.

    Why We’re Hyped

While music-rhythm games are nothing new, blending the split-second reflexes of anti-gravity racing with dynamic, track-shifting audio choreography is a massive undertaking. If Temerity Games nails the execution, SEAR could easily become a multiplayer favourite and a visual showcase for synthwave, electronic, and rock fans alike.

SEAR doesn’t have an official release date just yet, but it’s officially on our radar. Stay tuned to TechMash for more updates, gameplay trailers, and tracklist reveals as they drop.

What do you think? Does a shifting, musical racetrack sound like a dream come true, or a motion-sickness nightmare? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Batters Up! ‘Baito Fight!!: Part-time Devil Hunter’ Steps Up to the Plate This August

Batters Up! ‘Baito Fight!!: Part-time Devil Hunter’ Steps Up to the Plate This August

Indie JRPG fans, grab your favourite bat and get your resumes ready. Osaka-based indie developer KINGOFSHIBUYA Ltd. is bringing their highly anticipated, delightfully oddball life simulator, Baito Fight!!: Part-time Devil Hunter, to PC via Steam on August 11, 2026.

If you’ve ever felt like balancing rent, adult responsibilities, and a literal horde of aggressive demons was too much to handle, this game is here to show you that a good swing can solve just about anything.

The Story: Retiring to a Neighbourhood From Hell

In Baito Fight!!, players step into the worn cleats of Anansi, a retired ex-baseball player who just wants a quiet life. He settles into a modest new apartment building deep in the heart of Osaka’s bustling Naniwa Ward, expecting peaceful mornings and a distinct lack of drama.

Instead, he finds himself in the ultimate hustle. His new neighbourhood is completely infested with bizarre, wacky devils determined to turn his retirement into a living hell. With overdue rent piling up and the constant threat of eviction loitering at his doorstep, Anansi has to do what any sensible athlete would do: take a part-time job (baito) as a freelance devil hunter using his lethal baseball skills.

Gameplay: Swing for the Fences (and for Survival)

Baito Fight!! Bridges the gap between classic, turn-based JRPG combat and a high-stakes rhythm or timing game.

    • Turn-Based Slugfests: Take on hordes of invading demons using tactical pitches and heavy strikes.
    • Real-Time Defensive Batting: When the devils fight back, the game switches to a precise, real-time batting mechanic. Time your swing perfectly to score a massive counter-strike strikeout, but be careful—swing and miss, and Anansi’s HP takes a major hit.
    • The Konbini Power-Up: Earn money from your devil-hunting shifts and make runs to the local Japanese convenience store (konbini). Instead of just buying snacks, you’ll purchase new abilities and supernatural powers to stem the tide of the infestation.

A Living, Breathing World Inspired by the Classics

Visually, Baito Fight!! is a gorgeous tribute to the charming, lo-fi pixel art styles of legendary titles like Earthbound, Undertale, and Yume Nikki.

But what truly sets it apart is its persistent, advancing world. Much like Animal Crossing, the game is structurally designed to be digested in bite-sized pieces every day. The in-game world advances forward in real time with you.

As the days pass, the main plot moves forward, new side quests open up, and you’ll get the chance to befriend an eclectic, quirky roster of neighbours living around your building. Learning their stories and helping them out is your ticket to solving the ultimate mystery: Why are these devils invading Osaka, and how can Anansi finally get some peace and quiet?

Oh, and yes—you can pet the cat.

    Mark Your Calendars

Originally turning heads as an award-winning title for the Playdate handheld console, this expanded version brings crisp, enhanced mechanics and full PC optimisation to a wider audience.

Baito Fight!!: Part-time Devil Hunter officially hits Steam on August 11, 2026, for a budget-friendly $8.99. Head over to Steam now to add it to your wishlist, and prepare to knock some demons out of the park!

  • Stargazing and Storytelling: Nightscape Drops Captivating New Narrative Trailer

Stargazing and Storytelling: Nightscape Drops Captivating New Narrative Trailer

Independent developer Mezan Studios has released an enchanting new narrative trailer for their highly anticipated debut title, Nightscape. Ahead of its multiplatform launch later this year, the latest footage pivots away from pure gameplay to shine a spotlight on the game’s dialogue, lore, and overarching story progression.

If you haven’t had this gorgeous project on your radar yet, Nightscape is an atmospheric 2.5D puzzle-adventure heavily inspired by ancient Arabian astronomy and mythology.

Check out the details from the latest narrative trailer below.

    Restoring the Fallen Constellations

The new trailer gives players a deeper look into the emotional driving force behind the journey. You play as Layla, a young stargazer who has inherited her father’s deep passion for the cosmos.

The world is plunged into darkness following a catastrophic event known as the Starfall, which causes the brilliant Arabic constellations to plummet from the heavens. With the world forgetting the names of the stars and a consuming darkness taking over the land, Layla’s father mysteriously vanishes during the chaos.

It is up to Layla—alongside an incredibly charming Goat Kid companion (who happens to have a celestial secret of his own)—to venture across a fractured world, restore the stars to their rightful place, and save her father.

    Wielding Stellar Powers

While the trailer focuses on narrative beats, it hints at how Layla’s knowledge of the cosmos shapes the gameplay. Using a magical astrolabe, players will wield unique constellation powers to manipulate the elements. You will be able to:

    • Summon powerful gusts of wind to shift heavy objects.
    • Call down rain to alter environments and solve intricate puzzles.
    • Unleash lightning to activate ancient mechanisms and devices.

A Fresh Cultural Voice in Gaming

Based in Doha, Qatar, Mezan Studios aims to be a prominent voice for aspiring game developers from the MENA region. Nightscape highlights a rich tapestry of Arabian folklore and astronomy—themes that are criminally underrepresented in modern gaming. Between its breathtaking night-time environments, light elemental combat, and emotional narrative focus, it’s shaping up to be a standout indie release for the year.

    Release Platforms

Nightscape is scheduled to release later this year on PC (via Steam), PlayStation, and Xbox.

  • Master the Monochrome: ‘Helix: Descent N Ascent’ Brings Mind-Bending Puzzles to Steam and Switch This July

Master the Monochrome: ‘Helix: Descent N Ascent’ Brings Mind-Bending Puzzles to Steam and Switch This July

Indie game aficionados, clear your calendars. Belgian developer Badass Mongoose has officially locked in the launch date for its highly anticipated title, Helix: Descent N Ascent. Mark your calendars for 23 July 2026, when this strikingly beautiful, non-violent puzzle-adventure simultaneously hits PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch.

If you are a fan of rich atmospheres, unique mechanics, and artistic storytelling, this is definitely one to add to your wishlist.

What is Helix: Descent N Ascent?

In Helix: Descent N Ascent, you awaken in a dull, dark, and disembodied world. While isolation seems absolute at first, you quickly cross paths with a mysterious doppelganger—a being who looks exactly like you but always seems to operate at complete odds with your actions. Is he a friend, a foe, or a mirror to your own subconscious?

To uncover the truth behind this twin entity and the ruins of a lost civilisation, players must navigate a barren landscape by unlocking and mastering an intricate power system.

Key Features to Get Excited For:

    • The Mix-and-Match Puzzle System: The core of Helix relies on a clever mechanics loop. Players can discover and combine different embodied powers, giving them up to 25 distinctive ways to interact with their surroundings across three different tiers of complexity.
    • Striking Monochrome Aesthetics: Visually, the game is a love letter to vintage print media. It draws heavy inspiration from 1980s black-and-white indie comics, 1990s manga, and classic 1970s Franco-Belgian comic art.
    • A Masterclass Soundtrack: The dreamlike, serene, and occasionally eerie atmosphere is stitched together by an exceptional score from acclaimed composer Jim Guthrie (Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Nobody Saves the World).
    • An Emotional, Peaceful Journey: Stripping away typical video game violence, Helix chooses to challenge your brain and soul instead. It uses its environment to weave a quiet narrative about identity, relationships, and deep solitude.

The Road to a Polished Launch

The team at Badass Mongoose initially eyed an earlier window, but following a massively successful demo run during Steam Next Fest, the developers made the decision to take a few extra months to add more scale and polish. The delay ensured that both PC and Nintendo Switch players get the definitive, flawlessly optimised version on day one.

Whether you want to play cosy in handheld mode on your Switch or dive into the stunning, hand-drawn details on your PC rig, the wait is almost over. Get ready to descend into the mysteries and ascend to the light next month!

  • Grab a Pint and a Sword: ‘The Drifting Crown’ Demo Is Out Now!

Grab a Pint and a Sword: ‘The Drifting Crown’ Demo Is Out Now!

Let’s be honest: video games have asked us to save the world, save the galaxy, and save the princess. But rarely do they ask us to save what truly matters.

    The local pub.

If you’ve been craving a fresh indie tactical RPG with a healthy dose of British humour and high-stakes tavern defence, your order is up. The Drifting Crown demo is officially live on Steam, and it’s time to find out if you have what it takes to protect the realm’s finest watering hole.

    What is The Drifting Crown?

Developed by a passionate team of indie devs, The Drifting Crown is a turn-based tactical RPG that mixes grid-based strategy with a heavy splash of personality.

The premise? The kingdom is in absolute shambles. The crown is missing, monsters are roaming the countryside, and bandits are terrorising the locals. But worst of all? They are threatening the local pub—the literal heart and soul of your community.

As a ragtag group of unlikely heroes (who would frankly rather be drinking than fighting), it’s up to you to pick up your weapons, defend your pints, and drive back the hordes.

Why You Need to Download the Demo Right Now

    1. Tactical Combat with a Twist

Don’t let the cosy pub vibes fool you; the combat requires genuine strategy. You’ll need to utilise the environment, manage your action points, and position your party perfectly to survive the onslaught. Think Final Fantasy Tactics meets Shaun of the Dead.

    2. Characters with Actual Character

Say goodbye to the brooding, chosen-one protagonists. The heroes in The Drifting Crown are deeply flawed, incredibly witty, and highly relatable. Their banter alone makes the demo worth playing.

    3. A Gorgeous Pixel Art Style

The game features beautifully detailed, vibrant pixel art that perfectly captures both the cosy warmth of a roaring tavern fire and the gritty tension of a battlefield.

    How to Play

The demo is available as part of Steam’s latest lineup, giving you a generous slice of the early game. You’ll get a feel for the combat mechanics, meet the core cast, and experience the opening battle to save your favourite establishment.

TechMash Verdict: If you love indie RPGs that don’t take themselves too seriously but still offer a mechanical challenge, The Drifting Crown needs to be on your wishlist immediately.

Head over to Steam, download the demo, and let us know in the comments how many turns you survived!

  • Table Football Meets Total Chaos: Pimbolas is Bringing Arcade Mayhem to Steam This July

Table Football Meets Total Chaos: Pimbolas is Bringing Arcade Mayhem to Steam This July

The humble pub foosball table is about to get a serious digital upgrade—and by upgrade, we mean a healthy dose of absolute, unpredictable madness.

Get ready to rally your crew, because Pimbolas is officially launching on Steam on July 16. Developed by the talented Brazilian team at Nano Knight Studio, this indie title takes the core mechanics of traditional tabletop foosball and straps them to an arcade rocket, blasting strategy, skill, and pure chaos into every single frame.

    Foosball, But Make It Wild

If you’re expecting a straightforward sports simulator, think again. Pimbolas is a fast-paced physics party game designed to completely reinvent how we look at tabletop football. Born from an internal studio game jam after one of the developers played foosball for the first time, Nano Knight Studio quickly realised they had a hit on their hands. Instead of worrying about strict rules, they focused on making a game that is easy to pick up, impossible to put down, and wildly unpredictable.

No two matches are ever the same. The game is packed with unique arenas and a massive variety of game-changing modifiers and power-ups. Just when you think you’ve lined up the perfect shot, the game throws a curveball—sometimes literally.

What Can You Expect on the Pitch?

    • Insane Ball Physics: Forget the standard white plastic ball. Prepare to face down giant balls, square balls, fireballs, and ice balls.
    • Hazardous Environments: Matches can quickly devolve into chaos when explosive bombs drop onto the field, or when unusual objects like coconuts and crabs start disrupting your playstyle.
    • Arcade Mode & Unlocks: Playing solo? Dive into the single-player Arcade Mode to test your skills against the CPU, unlocking a vibrant roster of new characters, items, and challenges as you progress.
    • 4-Player Local Multiplayer: Pimbolas shines brightest as a party game. Gather up to four friends on the couch for local split-screen PvP or co-op sessions that are guaranteed to end in shouts, laughs, and broken friendships (the good kind).

“The goal was always to create a game that is easy to learn, but hard to put down,” says Baptixta, Game Designer of Pimbolas. “Whether playing alone against the CPU or gathering friends in local multiplayer for up to four players, the idea is to deliver quick, competitive matches full of unexpected moments for everyone.”

A Tribute to Great Party Games

Drawing inspiration from multiplayer gems like Boomerang Fu, Mario Strikers, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros., Pimbolas balances competitive depth with casual, pick-up-and-play fun. It’s a colourful, high-energy love letter to both Brazilian football culture and classic arcade action.

    Ready to Play?

Pimbolas officially drops on July 16 for Windows, Mac, and Linux (and it’s already fully compatible for your Steam Deck sessions!). If you can’t wait until mid-July to experience the madness, there is a free demo available right now on Steam for you to try out.

Head over to Steam, test your reflexes, and don’t forget to hit that wishlist button!

  • Splat’s Enough! Active Clicker RPG ‘No More Slimes!!’ Launches on Steam

Splat’s Enough! Active Clicker RPG ‘No More Slimes!!’ Launches on Steam

The once-peaceful Miallut Canyon has a major, gooey problem. A mysterious army of slimes has completely overrun the region, transforming a minor nuisance into a full-blown ecological catastrophe. If you’re ready to pick up your weapons and clear the ooze, developer and publisher Minimum Studio Corp. has just the thing for you. Their brand-new active clicker-style incremental RPG, No More Slimes!!, has officially hit Steam.

For fans of idle progression who still want to stay engaged in the heat of battle, this indie title offers a refreshing, hands-on twist to the casual defence genre.

    Active Combat Meets Idle Progression

Many clicker games relegate you to the role of a passive observer, letting you watch numbers go up while your characters do the heavy lifting. No More Slimes!! Subverts this by casting you as the ultimate “fixer” who can directly intervene in combat.

While your defences work, you can actively turn the tide of battle using powerful targeted skills like Cannon and Sniper to blast through the jelly-like hordes.

Key features driving the gameplay include:

    • Interdimensional Mercenaries: You don’t have to save Miallut Canyon alone. Recruit and deploy unique supporters summoned from other dimensions. These mercenaries track and attack enemies using their own AI, adding a layer of tactical placement to the auto-battle chaos.
    • Vast Skill Trees: Instead of following a rigid, linear upgrade path, the game lets you build a character tailored to your playstyle. Depending on the branches you choose, your fixer will take on an entirely different combat identity.
    • Deep Farming and Collection: Hunting down the slime army rewards you with rare, low-probability Relics that unlock hidden potentials. You can also invest level-up points into Special Cards that grant distinct, rule-breaking abilities.
    • Weapon Upgrades: Continuously pump your hard-earned resources into strengthening your arsenal to boost your attack range, allowing you to wipe out entire swarms with a single, satisfying blow.

“Uncover the mastermind behind the mucilaginous catastrophe covering Miallut Canyon! What started as a mere nuisance has now escalated into a massive commotion threatening the entire canyon.”

What’s Next for the Slime Apocalypse?

No More Slimes!! is currently available on Steam (Windows, Mac, and Linux) for a casual-friendly price of $9.99 / £8.50. It also includes full language support for English, Japanese, Korean, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Minimum Studio Corp. isn’t stopping at PC, either. The developer has already confirmed that ports for mobile devices, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox platforms are in the pipeline. Furthermore, players can look forward to a new mercenary DLC alongside a massive, free content update that will introduce Chapters 9 and 10, bringing new enemy types and extra skills to the table.

If you’re looking for a fresh, tactile spin on the incremental RPG formula that lets you actively blow up thousands of monsters, No More Slimes!! is definitely worth a click.

Shhh… ‘Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence’ Brings its Dark Secrets to Consoles on July 3

If you are a fan of retro aesthetics, creeping suspense, and the golden age of 90s point-and-click gaming, you are in for a treat this summer. Publisher DevilishGames and developer Making Enemies have officially announced that their atmospheric indie hit, Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence, is breaking its PC boundaries and heading to major consoles on July 3.

Whether you play on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S, you will soon be able to dive into this bite-sized psychological mystery from the comfort of your couch.

Check out what to expect from this haunting narrative journey below!

Uncover the Secrets of a Silent Abbey

In this first instalment of the Scholar Adventure series, players step into the shoes of William, a young and impulsively curious writer desperate for a brilliant premise to launch his debut novel. His quest for literary inspiration leads him to a secluded, rocky island housing a remote monastery.

Once a place filled with beautiful songs of worship, the abbey has been plunged into total hush after its former abbot went mad and imposed a strict, absolute vow of silence on all the monks. What starts as a peaceful retreat for William quickly spirals into a dark, unsettling investigation. Within these cold stone walls lies a deeply buried secret—one that was never meant to be uncovered.

    Retro Vibes and Dark Humour

Scholar Adventure: Mystery of Silence is a love letter to the classic graphic adventures of the 1990s. The game beautifully blends:

    • Atmospheric Pixel Art: Detailed, gloomy environments that perfectly capture a sense of isolation and dread under a full moon.
    • Intricate Soundscapes: A solemn, orchestral soundtrack composed by Antonio Vozmediano that fills the void of the unvoiced characters.
    • Classic Gameplay: A sleek, intuitive one-click interface featuring environmental and inventory-based puzzles, complete with a unique “ear” icon to listen in on the abbey’s hidden echoes.
    • Focused Storytelling: With a tight runtime of roughly 1 to 3 hours, it delivers a punchy, highly immersive narrative experience with touches of black humour and multiple endings.

Available for Pre-order and Wishlist Now!

Following its initial successful launch on Steam, the team is thrilled to bring this eerie short story to a wider audience, laying down the groundwork for future entries in the Scholar Adventure universe.

  • HR Notice: Ledgerbound Delayed to August—But It’s to File Down Those Final Bugs!

HR Notice: Ledgerbound Delayed to August—But It’s to File Down Those Final Bugs!

If you were preparing to clear your desk, ignore your real-world responsibilities, and step into the hilariously bureaucratic world of Ledgerbound this July, we have some news. You might want to hold off on requesting that annual leave just yet.

Developer OmniMegaSuperCorp has announced that the highly anticipated, Fire Emblem-inspired comedy RPG is taking a brief extension on its deadline. Originally scheduled to launch on PC on 14th July, the game’s release date has been officially pushed back to 11th August.

The reason? The developers want to deliver the absolute best possible version of the game to players at launch. In true corporate fashion, the news even arrived with an in-character apology from Jazz, the game’s vaping dragon-lady HR representative.

Why We Are Happy to Wait for Ledgerbound

While delays are always a bit of a buzzkill, an extra month in the development oven is usually a great sign for a polished final product. And honestly, Ledgerbound is shaping up to be something incredibly special.

For the uninitiated, here is why this tactical RPG needs to be on your radar:

    • The Ultimate Corporate Satire: You play as Rayna, an overworked insurance adjuster in a high-fantasy world whose job is to deny claims when heroes die. When a world-shattering threat strikes, you have to step onto the battlefield yourself to save reality (and your shot at a promotion).
    • Elite Comedy Pedigree: The game features hilarious writing from the former Narrative Director of Helldivers 2, bringing that same brilliant, satirical wit to the turn-based RPG genre.
    • Fire Emblem Meets Paperwork: Combat features grid-based tactical movement and a rock-paper-scissors elemental system reminiscent of classic Fire Emblem, blended with bureaucratic traps and quarterly bonuses.
    • HR-Approved Romance: Between fighting monsters and filing paperwork, you can spend time onboarding a stellar cast of coworkers and pursuing workplace romances—voiced by legendary industry talent like Matthew Mercer and Ben Starr.

The Verdict: Think of this delay not as a setback, but as a mandatory corporate review to ensure maximum launch-day efficiency. Sharpen your quills and get ready to trade company vouchers for stat-boosting corporate swag when the game drops on Steam this August!

Ledgerbound will now launch on PC via Steam on 11th August.

  • Gravity-Defying Triumph: Aether & Iron Grabs Best RPG Nomination at TooManyGames 2026

Gravity-Defying Triumph: Aether & Iron Grabs Best RPG Nomination at TooManyGames 2026

The indie gaming scene is absolutely electric right now, and today brings some massive news for fans of deep storytelling and stunning world-building. Developer Seismic Squirrel has officially announced that their breakout hits, Aether & Iron, have been selected as part of the prestigious 2026 TooManyGames Indie Game Showcase Awards.

Even more exciting? The decopunk noir title has officially secured a nomination for Best Role Playing Game, cementing its status as one of the standout indie RPGs of the year.

Standing Out in a Massive Crowd

This nomination is no small feat. The TooManyGames Indie Showcase is notoriously competitive, drawing submissions from across the globe. For the 2026 awards, Aether & Iron was handpicked from a highly curated pool of 150 juried indie games, putting it directly under the spotlight at one of the summer’s premier gaming conventions.

The category win will be decided alongside 14 other award types, highlighting the finest independent innovation, creativity, and passion in the industry today.

    What Makes Aether & Iron a Must-Play?

If you haven’t yet dived into Seismic Squirrel’s masterpiece, you are missing out on one of the most uniquely atmospheric games of 2026.

Set in an alternate, gravity-defying 1930s New York City, the game trades traditional streets for a vertical metropolis kept afloat by “aether”—a newly discovered anti-gravitational technology. You play as Gia, a sharp-tongued smuggler navigating a deeply class-stratified society, dangerous crime syndicates, and fragile political alliances.

    • Pedigree Writing & Audio: The game features narrative talent with past credits on heavy hitters like Mass Effect and Far Cry. Adding to the rich, smoky, noir atmosphere is an original score composed by two-time Grammy Award winner Christopher Tin and Grammy nominee Alex Williamson (Civilisation series).
    • Decopunk Noir Aesthetic: Visually inspired by 1930s detective comics and the Art Deco period, the hand-drawn art style is jaw-dropping.
    • Tactical Depth: Beyond the heavy narrative focus and fully voiced branching dialogue, players must master a robust turn-based tactical combat system and upgrade their smuggler vehicles with hidden compartments, smoke dispensers, and flamethrowers.

“An instant RPG masterpiece and one of the best games of 2026.” — Region Free

The winners are being unveiled at the Neko Stage in Hall D during the convention, with the ceremony being streamed live on Steam and YouTube.

If you want to see what all the hype is about, Seismic Squirrel has recently rolled out major updates to the game, including the new Roadside Garage feature. Aether & Iron is currently available on Steam for both Windows and MacOS with a playable demo available if you want to test your smuggling skills first.

Huge congratulations to the teams at Seismic Squirrel and Chaos Theory Games on a well-deserved nomination!
