Into the Woods: Team17’s Silver Pines Blends Lynchian Dread with Classic Survival Horror

Looking for your next dark gaming obsession? Publisher Team17 and developer Wych Elm have officially dropped a release date, and a playable Steam demo for Silver Pines—and it looks beautifully disturbing.

Stepping into the shoes of private investigator Red Walker, you’re summoned to a rundown, half-abandoned American town to “Find Eddie Velvet.” What follows is a gorgeous, 2.5D dreamscape full of hand-painted, rotoscoped animations, Neo-noir vibes, and an oppressive, David Lynch-style atmosphere.

But don’t let the striking art style fool you. This is a love letter to classic, unforgiving survival horror mixed with Metroidvania-style exploration. You’ll need to solve complex puzzles, deal with a highly suspicious local populace, and strictly manage scarce inventory space—because every bullet and medicine bottle counts when you’re fighting (or desperately evading) nightmarish terrors.

Mark your calendars: the descent into darkness begins on October 8, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Can’t wait until Autumn? Head over to Steam right now to check out the brand-new demo!

  • 13,000 Players Braved the Dark: ‘Fearwoods’ Next Fest Success Leads to Major Gameplay Overhaul

13,000 Players Braved the Dark: ‘Fearwoods’ Next Fest Success Leads to Major Gameplay Overhaul

The forest is getting darker, but the future of Fearwoods is looking incredibly bright. Following the most recent Steam Next Fest, the three-person development team behind the atmospheric survival horror title has revealed that over 13,000 players stepped into its cursed woods.

While the numbers are a massive win for the indie studio, the real story lies in what happens next. Taking the mountain of player feedback to heart, the developers have announced a series of significant gameplay updates designed to sharpen the tension and refine the horror experience before its Q2 2026 release.

Listening to the Echoes in the Trees

Next Fest is often a “make or break” moment for indie devs, and for Fearwoods, it served as a brutal, beautiful stress test. With 13,000 sets of eyes on the demo, the team identified exactly where the fear was hitting—and where the mechanics were getting in the way of the scares.

In a recent dev update, the team expressed their gratitude:

“Internal testing can only take a horror experience so far. To truly balance psychological pressure and sound awareness, we needed to see how thousands of players react to fear spikes and chase sequences. Your feedback is shaping the final forest.”

What’s Changing? The Roadmap to Terror

Based on the data collected from the demo, several core systems are being overhauled to ensure that Fearwoods isn’t just another walk in the park.

Weapon System Redesign: The inventory is getting a “less is more” treatment. Instead of fumbling between three different tools, players will now utilise a unified flashlight-based mechanic. This keeps the focus on the game’s core light-driven survival without breaking immersion.

Navigation Evolution: Getting lost is part of the fun, but getting frustrated isn’t. A new early-era GPS system (set chronologically before the events of the first game) is being implemented to help players navigate the terrain more naturally while maintaining that “lost in the woods” tension.

Enhanced Movement: One of the most common pieces of feedback involved player responsiveness. The movement system has been completely rebuilt to feel smoother and more fluid, crucial for those heart-pounding moments when the demon is right on your heels.

Visual & Performance Polish: Utilising Unreal Engine 5, the team is pushing for even greater terrain clarity and environmental detail. Optimisation is also a top priority to ensure the “living forest” runs smoothly across a wider range of PC builds.

    Socialising the Scare

The update isn’t just about the solo experience. The 3D pre-match lobby is receiving a social facelift, making it easier to refresh Steam avatars and prevent spam invites. With three-player co-op at the heart of the game, making the “hanging out before you die” part of the game seamless is a high priority.

    Looking Ahead to 2026

Fearwoods is currently slated for an Early Access launch in Q2 2026. The plan is to spend 6–9 months in Early Access to expand the narrative across new maps like Greyhaven and The Womb, stabilising the experience based on continued community input.

For those who missed the Next Fest demo, you can still head over to the Fearwoods Steam Page to wishlist the game and keep an eye on the upcoming darkness.

  • Fearwoods New Public Demo Launching February 23

Fearwoods New Public Demo Launching February 23

Darkness is about to get a whole lot more crowded. The developers behind the upcoming co-op survival horror title Fearwoods have officially pulled back the curtain, launching the game’s Steam demo page today.

While the store page is live now for wishlisting, the gates to the cursed forest won’t fully open for the public until February 23, 2026, coinciding with the start of Steam Next Fest.

    What is Fearwoods?

Developed by a tight-knit indie team and published by GrabTheGames, Fearwoods is a 3-player cooperative survival horror experience where your only defences are light and silence. Set in a haunting, atmospheric forest, the game pits you and your friends against a relentless demon that hunts by sound and thrives in the shadows.

    Key Gameplay Features:

    • Tactical Light Mechanics: Light isn’t just for seeing; it’s your primary weapon to drive back the darkness. However, resources are limited—shine too bright for too long, and you might find yourself empty-handed when the demon strikes.
    • The Legend of Aveline: Players must uncover the tragic story of Aveline by finding journal fragments and old GPS pieces scattered throughout the woods.
    • Sound Matters: Silence is safety. The demon is always listening, making coordination and stealth just as vital as having a full battery in your flashlight.
    • Co-op Coordination: Built for teams of three, the game emphasises shared resources and mutual trust. One wrong move by a teammate could spell the end for the whole group.

    A Visual and Strategic Overhaul

If you’ve been following the game’s development on Reddit or social media, you’ll notice the demo features some significant recent upgrades. The developers recently overhauled the weapon system, moving from a multi-tool setup to a more focused, intuitive single-flashlight mechanic.

Additionally, the game has been ported into Unreal Engine 5, offering a massive visual boost to terrain clarity and atmospheric lighting—ensuring that every shadow feels a little more menacing than before.

    Mark Your Calendars: February 23

The public demo officially drops on February 23, but you don’t have to wait until then to show your support. Head over to the Fearwoods Steam Page now to add it to your wishlist.

Early access for influencers and content creators has already begun, so keep an eye on Twitch and YouTube over the next few days if you want a sneak peek at the terrors that await.

  • Stepping into the Dust: A Deep Dive into Little Nightmares III’s The Necropolis

Stepping into the Dust: A Deep Dive into Little Nightmares III’s The Necropolis

The eerie and unsettling world of Little Nightmares is expanding, and with the release of a new demo, fans are getting their first terrifying glimpse into one of the game’s new locales: The Necropolis. As a longtime admirer of this atmospheric horror series, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news on Little Nightmares III, and the demo has only heightened my anticipation. So, let’s break down what we’ve learned and what horrors await us in this wind-swept city of the dead.

A New Nightmare, A New Duo

The first thing to know is that Little Nightmares III introduces us to two new protagonists, Low and Alone. This marks a significant shift from the previous games’ single-character journeys (with a brief AI companion in Little Nightmares II). In a groundbreaking move for the franchise, the game is built around online co-op. You can now face your childhood fears with a friend, each controlling one of the new characters. Don’t have a co-op partner? No problem. The game is fully playable solo, with an AI controlling the other character.

The unique abilities of Low and Alone are central to the new gameplay. Low, with his crow mask and bow and arrow, handles ranged puzzles and threats. Alone, sporting a green jumpsuit and a wrench, is the master of melee and breaking through barriers. This dynamic duo system looks to be a fantastic evolution of the puzzle-platforming that defines the series, forcing players to work together and utilise both characters’ strengths to survive.

The Necropolis: A City of Wind and Rust

The demo gives us a taste of The Necropolis, a desolate desert city powered by the constant gust of wind. This setting is a stark departure from the damp, claustrophobic environments of the Maw or the urban sprawl of the Pale City. The Necropolis is a vast, open-air graveyard of machinery, its windmills and sails turning endlessly in a chilling, mechanical chorus. It’s a city of “eternal energy and certain death,” and while its original inhabitants, the Dwellers, are long gone, new and terrifying residents have taken their place.

The atmosphere is one of overwhelming decay and loneliness. The muted, monochromatic palette of stone and dust gives the area a uniquely haunting aesthetic. The sound of the wind is a constant presence, a mournful whisper that makes every creak of a door or shift of sand feel like a new threat.

    Confronting a Monstrous Foe

A key part of the demo is the introduction of a new “Resident,” a foe named Monster Baby. This grotesque, oversized infant is a new kind of horror for the series. Her unpredictable and clumsy movements are just as terrifying as those of a more deliberate stalker. Navigating her “playground” requires a new kind of stealth and strategy, as her sheer size and destructive nature make hide-and-seek a life-or-death game. She’s a perfect example of the unsettling, almost absurd horrors that the Little Nightmares universe is known for.

    What’s Next?

The Little Nightmares III demo is a brilliant appetiser, leaving us with more questions than answers. What secrets are buried beneath the sands of The Necropolis? How do Low and Alone’s stories connect to the wider lore of The Nowhere? We’ll have to wait until the game’s official release on October 10, 2025, to find out.

This first look has proven that Supermassive Games is more than capable of continuing the legacy of this beloved franchise. The addition of co-op, the new characters, and the fresh, horrifying setting promise to make Little Nightmares III a memorable and chilling experience. Get ready to face your fears—this time, you don’t have to do it alone.
