The wait is over. Just as the smoke was starting to settle from the Season 1 finale, DICE has officially pulled the plug on the lights. Battlefield 6 Season 2: Nightfall is live as of March 17, 2026, and it’s arguably the most atmospheric update the franchise has seen in years.
While Season 1 was all about the “Winter Offensive,” Nightfall shifts the focus to tactical, high-stakes stealth and claustrophobic underground combat. Here is the breakdown of what’s waiting for you in the dark.
1. New Map: Hagental Base
Forget the sprawling vistas for a moment. Hagental Base is an infantry-focused, subterranean nightmare built beneath a mountain range. It draws heavy inspiration from fan-favourite “meat grinder” maps like Operation Metro and Operation Locker, but with a modern, destructible twist.
- Verticality & Flanking: Expect tight corridors that open into massive cavernous hangars.
- Destruction: You can cave in ceilings or blast new tunnels to bypass stalemates.
- The Gimmick: A power failure mechanic means large sections of the map are bathed in total darkness, forcing a shift in how you play.
2. The “Nightfall” Limited-Time Mode
This is where the update gets its name. In the Nightfall LTM, visibility is near zero. To survive, you’ll need to master the new Night Vision Goggles (NVG) gadget.
Pro Tip: NVGs are vital, but they aren’t a “win button.” Bright light sources—like tactical flashlights or flares—will effectively blind anyone wearing goggles. It’s a game of cat and mouse where your choice of optics actually matters.
3. New Tools of the Trade
A new season means new hardware. Season 2 introduces two weapons and a vehicle designed for the “hit-and-run” meta:
- CZ3A1 SMG: A high-rate-of-fire shredder perfect for the tight corners of Hagental.
- vz. 61 Sidearm: A fully automatic “pocket rocket” to bail you out when your primary runs dry.
- M1030-M1 & TM/O Dirt Bikes: Fast, loud, and incredibly agile. These are the fastest land vehicles in the game right now, perfect for two-person flanking manoeuvres.
REDSEC Expansion: Defence Testing Complex 3
The free-to-play battle royale, REDSEC, hasn’t been left in the dark. The Californian map, Fort Lyndon, has expanded downward. Defence Testing Complex 3 is a new subterranean POI filled with high-tier loot, connected by a network of tunnels that allow squads to traverse the map undetected by snipers above.
Play for Free This Week!
If you haven’t jumped into Battlefield 6 yet, now is the time. EA is running a Free Trial Week from March 17 to March 24.
You’ll have access to four maps (including the new Hagental Base) and six modes. If you decide to buy the full game afterwards, all your progress from the trial carries over.
Are you finding the darkness an improvement to the tactical flow, or do you miss the long-range chaos of Season 1? Let us know in the comments below!
