  • ARTE France Reveals Beyond the Plastic Wall: A Scavenger’s Journey Through a Poetic Post-Apocalypse

ARTE France Reveals Beyond the Plastic Wall: A Scavenger’s Journey Through a Poetic Post-Apocalypse

ARTE France, the publisher known for backing artistically ambitious titles like Bury Me, My Love and The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature, has officially pulled back the curtain on its latest project: Beyond the Plastic Wall. Developed by Motvind Studios, this 2.5D narrative adventure promises a melancholic yet visually stunning trek through a world that has seen better days.

Set to launch on PC via Steam in 2026, the game places players in the worn boots of Hal, a young scavenger living among the ruins of a decaying civilisation.

A Simple Goal in a Complex World

While many post-apocalyptic titles focus on grand survival or combat, Beyond the Plastic Wall leans into the “poetic.” Hal isn’t looking to save the world or topple a regime; he is driven by a much more human mystery. After discovering a box of lost letters, Hal sets out on a journey to deliver them to their rightful owner.

This quest takes players across a landscape that is “broken yet beautiful,” moving from desolate rocky coastlines to the sprawling concrete expanses of the last remaining city.

    Tactile Puzzles and Mechanical Logic

As a scavenger, Hal’s primary interaction with the world is through restoration. The gameplay blends narrative exploration with hands-on mechanical puzzles. You won’t just be clicking through dialogue; you’ll be:

    • Restarting rusted, forgotten engines.
    • Deciphering codes on antique telephones.
    • Navigating the internal logic of old archive computers.

These puzzles are designed to feel tactile and grounded, acting as a “whisper” from the machines of the past, helping Hal (and the player) piece together the history of the world before the walls went up.

    Key Features at a Glance

    FeatureDescription
Visual StyleA striking 2.5D blend of detailed pixel art and modern VFX.
ProtagonistHal, a scavenger who restores what others have abandoned.
Core MysteryA narrative-driven delivery of long-lost personal letters.
AtmosphereA reflective experience focusing on isolation, memory, and connection.
DeveloperMotvind Studios (the art collective duo of Leo Köhler and August Håkansson).

    Why It’s on Our Radar

ARTE France has a track record of publishing games that feel more like interactive art than traditional “products.” With a script by Imogen West-Knights and an original soundtrack by Ivan Starenius, Beyond the Plastic Wall looks set to be one of the most atmospheric indie releases of the year.

If you enjoy games that prioritise emotional storytelling and environmental world-building—think along the lines of Kentucky Route Zero or Sable—this is one to watch.

Availability: Beyond the Plastic Wall is slated for a 2026 release. You can already add it to your Steam Wishlist to stay updated on the official launch date.

  • Lost in the Void: Supermassive Games Launches Directive 8020 Today

Lost in the Void: Supermassive Games Launches Directive 8020 Today

The wait is finally over for horror fans. Supermassive Games, the powerhouse studio behind cult classics like Until Dawn and The Quarry, has officially launched Directive 8020 today, May 12, 2026.

Marking the highly anticipated start of “Season Two” for The Dark Pictures Anthology, this latest entry swaps haunted houses and ancient ruins for the cold, claustrophobic reaches of deep space. You can grab it right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).

In Space, No One Can Hear You Make a Wrong Choice

Set aboard the colonial sleeper ship Cassiopeia, Directive 8020 follows a crew desperately searching for a new home for humanity on the exoplanet Tau Ceti f. However, the mission takes a terrifying turn when the ship crash-lands, and the survivors realise they aren’t alone.

Unlike the supernatural threats of previous titles, this entry leans heavily into cinematic sci-fi survival horror. Think Alien meets The Thing, where the horror isn’t just lurking in the shadows—it might be standing right next to you.

    Evolution of the Formula

Supermassive hasn’t just changed the scenery; they’ve overhauled the gameplay. While the studio’s signature branching narratives and life-or-death decisions remain the core, Directive 8020 introduces several “Season Two” innovations:

    • Real-Time Survival: More agency than ever before. Expect deeper stealth mechanics and real-time threats that require more than just a quick-time event (QTE) to survive.
    • The “Turning Points” System: A brand-new feature that allows players to visualise key decision paths and even rewind to critical moments to explore alternate outcomes—a dream for completionists.
    • Star Power: Leading the cast is Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die, Captain Marvel), who delivers a powerhouse performance as astronaut Brianna Young.
    • Persistent Paranoia: With shape-shifting threats, the “Trust No One” mechanic ensures that your crewmates may not be who they seem.

    Technical Specs & Multiplayer

The game is built for the current generation, boasting 4K Ultra HD support and some of the most impressive facial animation tech seen in the series to date.

Pro Tip: Don’t face the void alone. The fan-favourite Couch Co-op (2–5 players) and Online Shared Story modes return, allowing you to seal your friends’ fates alongside your own.

    The Verdict is In

Early reviews are already circulating, with critics praising the “suffocating atmosphere” and “stellar writing.” While the new stealth mechanics have received a mixed reception for their simplicity, the narrative is being hailed as one of Supermassive’s strongest since the original Until Dawn.

Directive 8020 is available now. If you’re ready to see if you have what it takes to survive Tau Ceti f, head over to the Official Dark Pictures Site or your platform’s storefront to start your mission.

Will you keep your crew together, or will the paranoia tear you apart? Let us know your first impressions in the comments below!

  • Mind-Mapping the Monsters: The Big Hollow: 1982 Arrives May 28th

Mind-Mapping the Monsters: The Big Hollow: 1982 Arrives May 28th

True crime aficionados and psychological thriller fans, mark your calendars. Publisher DANGEN Entertainment and developer Krams Design have officially announced that their atmospheric detective thriller, The Big Hollow: 1982, will be stepping out of the shadows on May 28, 2026.

The game is set to launch on PC via Steam and GOG, bringing a gritty, Southern Gothic mystery to your desktop just in time for the summer. To celebrate the news, a brand-new release date trailer has dropped, offering a haunting look at the “fragments” of the case you’ll be tasked with piecing together.

A Test for the Behavioral Science Unit

Set in the early 80s—a time when the term “serial killer” was as fresh and experimental as the FBI’s own Behavioral Science Unit (BSU)—the game puts you in the shoes of Desmond. Under the cold, watchful eye of BSU representative Lenore Davidson, you’ll head to a small truck stop community where the disappearances of two girls, Ida and Bonnie, have left the locals in a state of hushed terror.

This isn’t just a “whodunnit.” It’s a “why-dunnit.” As Desmond, you’ll need to prove that human monsters can be mapped and understood, using early criminal profiling techniques to stay one step ahead of a killer who leaves behind more contradictions than clues.

What to Expect in The Big Hollow: 1982

    • A Focused Narrative: A tightly paced 2.5 to 3-hour experience designed for a deep, single-sitting dive.
    • Retro Aesthetic: Beautifully illustrated 2D/2.5D visuals that capture the grime and isolation of the 1980s American South.
    • Procedural Deduction: Use techniques inspired by real FBI thought processes to interpret evidence.
    • Player Agency: How you interpret the evidence shapes the investigation and influences Lenore’s impression of your potential as a profiler.

“For the FBI, this case isn’t just about murder—it’s a test of whether these monsters can really be mapped.”

    Watch the Release Date Trailer

The latest trailer highlights the game’s unique “illustrated realism” and the tense, cinematic storytelling Dane Krams (the solo developer behind Anna’s Quest) is known for. It’s clear that the atmosphere is the star of the show here—dripping with mood, 80s tech, and a sense of mounting dread.

The Big Hollow: 1982 is available to wishlist now on Steam and GOG. If you can’t wait until May 28th, there is currently a playable demo available on Steam to help you sharpen those profiling skills early.

  • Socialiskigrad: A Brutalist Dream (or Nightmare) Comes to Life

Socialiskigrad: A Brutalist Dream (or Nightmare) Comes to Life

Bergamo-based indie studio Sgriusoft has officially pulled back the curtain on its latest project, Socialiskigrad. With a fresh announcement trailer and a newly minted Steam page, the developer is inviting players to trade their modern skyscrapers for concrete blocks and state-mandated industry.

This tile-based city-builder isn’t just about placing roads; it’s a deep dive into the aesthetics and political complexities of a fictional post-Soviet republic during the late 20th century.

    From Mayor to President

In Socialiskigrad, you aren’t just an omnipotent architect—you are a political climber. You begin your journey as the mayor of a fledgling territory, tasked with building districts tile by tile. However, your ultimate goal is much loftier: rising through the ranks to become the President of the Republic.

The game promises a gritty, authentic atmosphere inspired by Balkan architecture and the industrial sprawl of the Eastern Bloc. You’ll manage your nation across four distinct biomes:

    • Seaside: Coastal regions with unique economic opportunities.
    • Forest: Heavily timbered areas are perfect for early industry.
    • Countryside: The agricultural heartland.
    • Steppe: Harsh, expansive plains that challenge your logistics.

    More Than Just Cement

While the brutalist aesthetics—featuring 14 unique districts and customizable building renovations—are the immediate draw, the management systems look remarkably robust. Sgriusoft has integrated several layers of simulation that go beyond traditional city-building:

    • Political Management: Balance the demands of the city council against the needs of the workers.
    • Crisis Response: Handle everything from sudden emergencies to workers’ strikes.
    • Complex Logistics: Oversee resource chains including energy, food supply, healthcare, and security.
    • The Corruption Factor: You’ll need to navigate (or lean into) the systemic corruption inherent in a transitioning republic.

“Build working-class districts, develop national industry, and govern the metropolises… Only you can become the shining President the country deserves!” — Sgriusoft

    Atmospheric Details

Technically, the game is leaning heavily into immersion. Players can expect a dynamic day-and-night cycle and seasonal snowfall that changes the visual and functional landscape of your city. If a building starts looking a bit too “grey,” you can even repaint and renovate structures to breathe life back into the concrete jungle.

    Who is Sgriusoft?

The studio is a small but dedicated Italian team consisting of developer Sergio Tengattini and marketing manager Mirjana Tufanovic. They previously gained attention for the retro-styled driving game Saddle Up and Drive, but Socialiskigrad represents a significant step up in scale and complexity.

Socialiskigrad is currently listed as “Coming Soon” on Steam for Windows and macOS. If you’re ready to manage bread lines and build monuments to your own greatness, you can wishlist it now on Steam.

Keep an eye on TechMash for more updates as we get closer to the revolution.

  • From Surrealistic Soulslikes to Culinary Combat: Clover Bite Announces Chef Knight

From Surrealistic Soulslikes to Culinary Combat: Clover Bite Announces Chef Knight

If you’ve ever explored the jagged, surreal world of GRIME, you know that Clover Bite doesn’t do “ordinary.” The indie powerhouse, famously known for its critically acclaimed Metroidvania (boasting a solid 81 Metacritic score), has spent years proving it can master the dark and the difficult.

But for their next project, they’re swapping the obsidian blades for butcher knives. Clover Bite has officially announced that Chef Knight will launch on Steam on June 1st, 2026.

    Cook What You Kill

While GRIME was about absorbing your enemies to gain their traits, Chef Knight takes a slightly more… literal approach to consumption. Billed as a cosy fantasy incremental game, the core loop is simple yet dangerously addictive:

    1. Slay: Dive into top-down dungeons filled with monsters that are as deadly as they are delicious.
    2. Harvest: Collect the remains of your fallen foes—every monster is a potential menu item.
    3. Cook: Head back to the kitchen to transform your haul into everything from humble broths to high-end monster delicacies.
    4. Sell: Serve your creations to hungry customers, then reinvest the gold into a massive skill tree to boost your combat and culinary efficiency.

    A Shift in Style

The most striking thing about Chef Knight—aside from the premise—is the aesthetic. Departing from the anatomical horror of their previous work, Clover Bite has opted for a hand-drawn, cosy art style. It’s warm, inviting, and a perfect fit for the “dungeon-food empire” vibe they’re aiming for.

“In Chef Knight, every monster is a menu item waiting to happen.”

Despite the “cosy” label, don’t expect it to be a walk in the park. The game features deep dungeon combat where players must dodge traps and master specialised culinary weapons. It’s a unique blend of the “bullet-hell Lite” intensity we expect from the studio and the “just-one-more-upgrade” satisfaction of a management sim.

    The Indie Incubator Model

Clover Bite continues to be one of the most interesting stories in game development. Operating as part of the Tiltan School of Design and Visual Communication, the studio acts as an incubator, publishing games created by teams of talented students.

This model has already produced gems like Once a Pawn, a King, and Slingbot Survivors, but Chef Knight feels like the studio’s next major breakout. The game has already gathered significant buzz among creators like Idle Cub and Sifd, and a free demo is currently available on Steam for those who want a taste (literally) before the full launch.

    Key Features to Watch:

    • Deep Skill Tree: Reinvest profits to improve combat speed, cooking efficiency, and dungeon endurance.
    • Exotic Recipes: Unlock an ever-expanding cookbook as you discover rarer ingredients in deeper dungeon floors.
    • Charming Aesthetic: A world that feels “warm and inviting even when the monsters are trying to kill you.”

Chef Knight arrives on Steam on June 1st, 2026. You can head over to the Steam store now to wishlist the game or try the demo.

  • Raise a Garden—From the Dead! Greenhearth Necromancer Sprouts onto Steam

Raise a Garden—From the Dead! Greenhearth Necromancer Sprouts onto Steam

In a world of breakneck pacing and high-stress gaming, Silverstring Media and publisher indie.io are offering a much-needed breath of fresh (if slightly graveyard-scented) air. Their cosy, semi-idle gardening sim, Greenhearth Necromancer, has officially launched on Steam, and it’s looking to redefine what it means to be a “green thumb.”

If you’ve ever felt the sting of a wilted houseplant or the anxiety of a ticking game timer, this might just be the digital sanctuary you’ve been looking for.

    A Different Kind of Afterlife

In Greenhearth Necromancer, you play as Echo, a freshly graduated non-binary necromancer who has just inherited their late grandmother’s apartment at the Greenhearth co-op. While Grandma was a legendary gardener, Echo’s skills lean a bit more toward the… unconventional side.

Instead of panic-clicking to keep things alive, you use your necromantic arts to raise undead plants, tend to spectral flowers, and even attract ghostly bees to generate mystical honey. It’s a game where death isn’t a “Game Over” screen—it’s just the beginning of a new growth cycle.

    Key Features:

    • Zero-Stress Gameplay: There are no countdown tickers or “anxiety mechanics” here. The game moves at your pace, designed to be a “deliberate break” in your daily routine.
    • Semi-Idle Mechanics: The game actually rewards you for stepping away. While you’re off doing other things, your plants heal quicker, and the narrative progresses faster.
    • A Heartfelt Story: Written by Lindsay Ishihiro (I Was a Teenage Exocolonist), the narrative explores themes of community, grief, and the cycle of life through Echo’s interactions with their new neighbours.
    • Ambient Vibes: A phenomenal lo-fi soundtrack accompanies the experience, making it the perfect background companion for work or study.

Flipping the Script on Idle Games

The team at Silverstring Media (the minds behind Glitchhikers) set out with a specific goal: to reclaim the “idle” genre from predatory mechanics. Instead of using dopamine loops to keep you glued to the screen, Greenhearth Necromancer encourages you to treat the garden like a real one—something you visit, nurture, and then let exist on its own.

“Echo is an introvert with limited social battery… Community, queerness, housing, capitalism, and especially death and grief are major themes we explore throughout the narrative.” — Lucas J.W. Johnson, Studio Director.

    Now Available

Ready to start your supernatural balcony garden? Greenhearth Necromancer is available now on Steam for £8.50 / $10.99.

Even better, early adopters can snag a 20% launch discount for a limited time. If you’re looking for a game that respects your time and lets you find beauty in the “down states” of life, it’s time to head to Greenhearth and start raising some hell—and some hydrangeas.

  • So Say We All: Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes Launches on PC

So Say We All: Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes Launches on PC

Attention, Commanders! If the sound of Cylon Raiders and the frantic spin of an FTL drive gets your pulse racing, it’s time to report to the flight deck. Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes, the highly anticipated tactical roguelite, has officially jumped into the digital storefronts of Steam and GOG.

Developed by Alt Shift (the minds behind the acclaimed Crying Suns) and published by Dotemu, this isn’t just another licensed tie-in. It’s a tense, original survival scenario that captures the “desperate flight through the stars” atmosphere that made the 2004 reimagined series a masterpiece.

    The Mission: Reach the Galactica

Set during the chaotic aftermath of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, you take command of a Gunstar—a smaller, agile cousin to the legendary Battlestars. Your objective is simple but harrowing: lead a ragtag fleet of civilian survivors across 12 perilous sectors to rendezvous with Admiral Adama and the Battlestar Galactica.

The game leans heavily into the franchise’s themes of survival, sacrifice, and the internal rot of paranoia. Every jump is a gamble, and every decision could be the difference between humanity’s survival or its extinction.

    Key Gameplay Features

    • Tactical Space Combat: Engage in real-time battles (with tactical pause) where you’ll deploy Viper squadrons, launch nukes, and manage your ship’s flak fields to repel relentless Cylon waves.
    • Deep Fleet Management: You aren’t just a pilot; you’re a leader. Manage dwindling resources, handle political friction between factions, and resolve shipboard crises ranging from food shortages to full-blown mutinies.
    • The “Cylon Among Us” Mechanic: In true BSG fashion, a saboteur is hidden within your senior crew. You must use your limited actions to investigate medical records and fleet history to expose the sleeper agent before they cripple your fleet.
    • Roguelite Replayability: No two runs are the same. Each attempt features procedural narrative paths, randomised upgrades, and different Cylon “boss” encounters that will test even the most seasoned veteran.

    Launch Window Discount

If you’re ready to take the CIC chair, now is the time to strike. Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is available now at a base price of $24.99.

However, early adopters can take advantage of a 20% launch window discount, bringing the price down to $19.99 (approx. £16.00). This offer is only available until May 18, so move fast before the Cylons close the gap.

For those who want the full experience, the Commander Edition is also available, bundling the game with a digital artbook and the atmospheric soundtrack.

Techmash Verdict: With its striking pixel-art aesthetic and punishing strategic depth, Scattered Hopes is the BSG game fans have been waiting for since Deadlock. It’s brutal, it’s beautiful, and it’s a must-play for sci-fi strategy buffs.

Check it out now on Steam here https://s.team/a/2535950

  • Grab Your Wasabi: “Just Eat Sushi!” Hits Steam Storefront

Grab Your Wasabi: “Just Eat Sushi!” Hits Steam Storefront

The wait for the most authentic dining experience in gaming is nearly over. Aurora Colored Bird Games has officially pulled back the curtain on the Steam store page for their highly anticipated title, “Just Eat Sushi!”

If you’ve ever found yourself hypnotised by the steady rotation of a sushi conveyor belt (Kaitenzushi), this is the simulator you’ve been waiting for. This isn’t a high-stress kitchen management sim; it’s a love letter to the art of dining, precision, and—as the title suggests—eating.

    What is “Just Eat Sushi!”?

Forget the frantic clicking of Overcooked. “Just Eat Sushi!” focuses on the realistic simulation of the conveyor belt experience. The developers have leaned heavily into the “zen” of the experience, utilising high-fidelity graphics and physics-based interactions to recreate the sights and sounds of a premium Japanese sushi house.

    Key features include:

    • Hyper-Realistic Visuals: Every nigiri, maki, and gunkan is rendered with mouth-watering detail.
    • Tactile Interactions: Use your mouse (or VR controllers) to pick up plates, dip fish in soy sauce, and stack your empty plates for the final bill.
    • The “Vibe” Factor: A dynamic ambient soundscape featuring the muffled chatter of other patrons and the rhythmic clinking of the belt.

    More Than Just a Meal

While the primary goal is to satisfy your digital hunger, Aurora Colored Bird Games has teased a few “gamey” elements to keep things interesting. Players will need to manage their stamina and budget, choosing between budget-friendly cucumber rolls and premium fatty tuna (Otoro) as they pass by.

“We wanted to capture the specific tension of seeing a plate you want at the far end of the belt and hoping no one else grabs it before it reaches you,” says the lead developer at Aurora Colored Bird Games.

    Wishlist Now on Steam

The opening of the Steam store page marks the final sprint toward release. While a definitive launch date hasn’t been set in stone yet, fans of simulation games and Japanese culture are encouraged to Wishlist the game now to stay updated on the upcoming demo and Early Access news.

Bee-hold the Buzz: Bottled By Bears Brings Cosy Honey Management to Steam

Get your jars ready and prepare for a serious dose of “cottagecore” charm. Barcelona-based independent developer Monoii Studio has officially pulled back the curtain on their debut title: Bottled By Bears.

If you’ve been looking for a game that trades high-octane stress for honey-soaked relaxation, this idle management sim might just be your next obsession. Scheduled for a full release on Steam in 2026, eager players won’t have to wait long to get a taste, as a free demo is slated for June.

    Meet the Pawfords

The game follows the Pawfords, a hardworking family of bears, finally realising their dream of running a honey farm. The vibe is intentionally low-stakes and high-reward. You’ll assist the family—including the slightly reluctant Berlon Jr.—in managing hives, tending to the fields, and expanding their burgeoning business.

    Key Gameplay Features:

    • Beepack Opening: In a cosy twist on card-collection mechanics, you’ll open “beepacks” to discover rare and shiny bee variants.
    • Dynamic Environments: Your farm isn’t static. Flowers grow and bloom dynamically based on the specific types of bees living in your hives, making every player’s field look unique.
    • Idle Management: Collect honey, bottle it up, and serve walk-in customers or fulfil large orders to grow your reputation.
    • Hand-Drawn Aesthetics: Everything in Bottled By Bears is hand-animated, giving the game a warm, storybook feel that fits perfectly in the “cosy game” genre.

    Why We’re Excited

The indie scene has seen a surge in “cosy” titles recently, but Monoii Studio seems to be hitting a sweet spot by blending collection mechanics with idle simulation. The focus on a family dynamic adds a layer of heart to the typical management loop, and the promise of “shiny” bees adds that “just one more pack” hook that completionists love.

“We’re finally at a point where we’re excited to show it… getting the flowers to cluster and feel natural and cozy has been one of our bigger visual challenges.” — Monoii Studio via Reddit.

    Mark Your Calendars

While the full launch is set for 2026, the June demo will be the perfect opportunity to test out the honey-making process for yourself. You can already head over to the Steam Store to add Bottled By Bears to your wishlist and stay updated on the upcoming demo drop.

Anchors Aweigh: Fleet Hunters Drops First Public Demo on Steam

If you’ve ever found yourself wishing that the classic game of Battleship had a bit more “oomph” and a lot less waiting around, today is your lucky day. Gnarly Labs, a solo indie studio based in Bucharest, has just unleashed the first public demo for Fleet Hunters on Steam.

Forget what you know about slow, turn-based naval combat. This is real-time tactical warfare, and it’s looking like a must-play for strategy fans as we head into 2026.

    What is Fleet Hunters?

At its core, Fleet Hunters is a “salvo-style” reimagining that ditches the turn-based grid slog for something far more frantic. Instead of waiting for your opponent to call out “B-4” while you sip your tea, Fleet Hunters demands that you place your fleet, track the enemy, and fire the second your weapons are hot.

Both players act simultaneously, creating a high-stakes “tactical duel” where every shot provides a vital clue. It’s not just about where the enemy is; it’s about reading patterns and reacting to the unfolding chaos in real time.

    Key Features at a Glance

    • Real-Time Combat: No turns, no downtime. If you’re loaded, you’re firing.
    • Tactical Depth: Use every hit and miss to triangulate the enemy’s position.
    • Visual Style: A crisp, top-down 3D presentation with a distinct “retro-modern” aesthetic.
    • Game Modes: The demo includes a taste of both single-player and multiplayer (Online and LAN PvP).
    • Indie Roots: Developed by a solo dev using the Godot Engine, proving once again that big ideas don’t always need massive teams.

Try Before You Buy (in 2026)

The full game isn’t slated for release until later in 2026, but the demo available now on Steam gives a generous look at the core mechanics. It’s compact, punchy, and designed for quick matches that still feel mentally taxing.

“Every shot is information. In Fleet Hunters, the battle is as much about what you know as it is about what you hit.” — Gnarly Labs

Why TechMash is Watching This One

We love a good genre-flip. By taking the logic-puzzle DNA of naval strategy and injecting it with the adrenaline of a real-time action game, Gnarly Labs is carving out a very specific niche. It’s accessible enough for a quick lunch-break skirmish but looks to have enough depth to satisfy the “one more round” crowd.

Want to test your sea legs? You can download the Fleet Hunters demo on Steam right now.
