  • Cosmic Chaos and Custom Fleets: Why Stellar Warfare is the Space RTS You Need to Play

Cosmic Chaos and Custom Fleets: Why Stellar Warfare is the Space RTS You Need to Play

The Real-Time Strategy (RTS) genre is a timeless classic, but it takes a truly ambitious project to stand out in the crowded space-combat field. Enter Stellar Warfare, a game that is not just paying homage to the greats like Homeworld and Red Alert, but is also charting its own course with unique and deep mechanics.

Developed largely as a passion project by a small team, this indie gem is proving that you don’t need a massive studio to deliver a stellar galactic conflict.

What Makes Stellar Warfare So Compelling?

At its core, Stellar Warfare is an old-school RTS experience—you harvest resources, build a base, and command a fleet to crush your enemies. However, it layers on features that elevate it far beyond a simple nostalgia trip.

    Deep, Modular Ship Customisation

Forget pre-set unit lists. This is where Stellar Warfare truly shines. The game provides you with over 200 available ships, weapons, and modules to design your fleet from the hull up.

    • Design Your Killer: Want a swift, shielded frigate with long-range missiles? Or a lumbering capital ship stacked with laser batteries and armour? The ship editor is a tinkerer’s dream, allowing for a near-unlimited number of possible configurations.
    • Strategic Variety: This customisation means no two battles are the same. Victory often hinges on out-designing your opponent as much as out-manoeuvring them on the battlefield.

    Full 3D Space Combat

Unlike many RTS games confined to a 2D plane, Stellar Warfare embraces the vastness of space with full 3D movement. Ships can attack from above, below, and all angles, transforming skirmishes into visually stunning, chaotic lightshows of laser fire and explosions.

The sheer spectacle of a fully customised fleet engaging in a high-stakes 3D battle is a breathtaking experience that captures the cinematic feel of classic sci-fi.

    Classic Base-Building Meets Space Strategy

The base-building elements borrow heavily from legends like Red Alert and Supreme Commander. You’ll construct:

    • Refineries and Power Plants to fuel your economy.
    • Defensive Turrets and Overshields to protect your critical infrastructure.
    • Shipyards to pump out your newly designed war machines.

This familiar foundation makes the game instantly accessible to RTS veterans, while the 3D map adds a refreshing layer of spatial strategy to where and how you build.

Game Modes to Test Every Commander

Stellar Warfare offers a diverse set of modes to keep you engaged:

    Game ModeDescription
SkirmishClassic RTS battle against the AI or human opponents.
CampaignetteA small story-driven mode following the aftermath of “The Light.”
Wave DefenseA challenging co-op or solo mode focused on base fortification and survival against endless enemy waves (a community-requested feature!).
Battle RoyaleA multiplayer mode for large-scale, winner-take-all engagements.

    A Labour of Love

What truly gives Stellar Warfare its heart is its origin. As a self-funded and community-driven project, the developers have consistently listened to player feedback, implementing major features like co-op and key balance tweaks based on what the community wanted.

It’s clear this game is a passion project, and that dedication shines through in the unique mechanics and the sheer volume of content.

If you’re a fan of classic real-time strategy, the strategic depth of fleet design, and stunning space battles, Stellar Warfare is waiting for your command. Download the free demo and start designing your ultimate death-fleet today!

  • Rebuilding and Ruin: Why You Need to Try Super Fantasy Kingdom

Rebuilding and Ruin: Why You Need to Try Super Fantasy Kingdom

Tired of the same old city-builders or roguelites? Get ready for a game that brilliantly smashes those two genres together: Super Fantasy Kingdom. It’s a charming pixel-art title that will have you happily building, defending, and then watching it all burn, only to jump straight back in for one more run.

The Cycle of the Crown: Build, Defend, Die, Repeat!

At its core, Super Fantasy Kingdom is a roguelite city-builder. You return to a land in ruin and, as the King, your task is to restore it. By day, you are a master of resource management. You assign workers to lumber yards, quarries, and farms, establishing production chains to feed your populace and fuel your construction. Every decision matters, as your available building plots and resources are limited and randomised each run.

But when night falls, the game shifts into a frantic defence! Hordes of monsters charge toward your castle gates, and your success hinges on the strategic placement and recruitment of your Heroes and units. This element plays out much like a tower defence or auto-battler, where unit synergy and positioning are key. You’ll recruit everything from archers and knights to cyclops and halflings, each with unique abilities and adjacency bonuses.

If your defences fail and your Hero falls, your kingdom is lost. But here’s the roguelite twist: progression is permanent.

    The Kingdom Always Rises

The magic of Super Fantasy Kingdom lies in its meta-progression. When you inevitably meet your demise, you carry forward “Glory” from defeated enemies and “Shards” from bosses and quests. These resources are used to unlock permanent benefits for future runs:

    • New Starting Heroes: Start your next run with a different, powerful Guardian to lead your defences.
    • Permanent Upgrades: Boost your starting resources, unlock new buildings, or gain access to unique relics.
    • Expanded Map: Unlocking “Roads” with Glory allows you to explore further, revealing new NPCs, challenges, and vital resource caches.

This continuous growth makes every “failed” run feel meaningful, giving you that addictive “just one more run” feeling as you strategise how to push your kingdom just a little further next time.

More Than Just Humans: The Undead Twist

As you progress through the Human Kingdom and defeat certain bosses, a whole new challenge awaits: the Undead Kingdom. This is no mere reskin; it introduces entirely different mechanics and resources.

Instead of permanent human workers, you manage a fleeting army of skeletons and zombies, using resources like “ooze” and “blood” to fuel your dark domain. This completely flips the resource management on its head, demanding new strategies and a different kind of micro-management, greatly expanding the game’s replayability.

    A Charming and Punishing Gem

With its bright, welcoming pixel-art style, Super Fantasy Kingdom is a visually appealing game. It manages to balance the satisfying loop of building and optimising with the punishing, high-stakes combat of a roguelite.

If you enjoy the strategic depth of a city-builder, the defense-focused combat of a tower defense, and the permanent progression of a roguelite, then this game is absolutely for you. It’s a game about making difficult choices, managing an ever-ticking clock, and learning from your spectacular failures.

Super Fantasy Kingdom is out now in Early Access and already offers a surprisingly deep and polished experience that promises to keep strategy fans hooked for a long, long time. Get ready to put on your crown and prepare to rebuild—over and over again!

  • From Ragnarök to Retail: Why Cloudheim is the Co-Op RPG You Need to Watch

From Ragnarök to Retail: Why Cloudheim is the Co-Op RPG You Need to Watch

Ragnarök is over. The gods are gone. The world is shattered into a collection of beautiful, floating islands. And who has been chosen to pick up the pieces and build the next civilisation? You.

Welcome to the vibrant, chaotic world of Cloudheim, an upcoming co-op action RPG that’s throwing traditional genre rules out the window. Developed by Noodle Cat Games, this title is shaping up to be a wild, physics-driven ride that blends high-octane combat with a surprisingly deep shopkeeping simulator—all from the back of a massive, flying turtle.

Here’s why Cloudheim is already making waves and what you can expect when it hits Early Access on December 4th!

    Master the Mayhem: Physics-Driven Combat

Forget static enemy health bars. Cloudheim’s core combat loop is all about creative destruction and emergent physics. This is a game where your environmental awareness is just as important as your weapon-swinging skill.

    • Chaos as a Strategy: Why simply hit an enemy when you can kick an exploding barrel into them, or lasso a monster and launch it into a crumbling pillar? The game rewards players who use the fully destructible environments to their advantage. Longer air time, bigger collisions—it all means more damage!
    • Combo-Driven Action: Drawing inspiration from fighting games, Cloudheim features deep combo and “cancel” systems. You’re never locked into a long animation, allowing you to fluidly chain together different weapon and ability attacks for truly spectacular, screen-filling chaos.
    • No Menus, Just Magic: The game champions real-time crafting and fusion. Need a new sword? Grab the materials and literally toss them into a nearby forge mid-battle. No inventory menus, no downtime—just visible, immediate creation that encourages teamwork and experimentation.

Your Home is a Giant Flying Turtle

When you’re not out on expeditions to awaken forgotten deities and drive back the corruption that plagues the scattered realm, your base of operations is the magnificent Odin Shell: a colossal, ancient flying turtle.

This isn’t just a fancy loading screen—it’s your fully customizable, evolving home and the heart of your economy.

    • Forge an Infinite Arsenal: The Odin Shell hosts your workshop, where you and your co-op buddies (up to 4 players) can forge a massive array of ever-evolving weapons and gear.
    • Run a Fantasy Shop: One of Cloudheim’s most unique twists is the Shop Sim element. You’ll use the loot gathered from dangerous dungeons to stock the shelves of your growing shop, serving customers from all corners of the sky. Upgrade your storefront, expand your offerings, and build a reputation to fund your legendary adventures. It’s an action RPG meets a fantasy entrepreneur.

    Built for Co-Op Synergy

While perfectly playable solo, Cloudheim truly shines when you gather your allies. The cooperative design is baked into every system:

    • Drop-In, Drop-Out Co-op: Friends can join your game instantly to explore diverse islands and mysterious, shifting dungeons.
    • Shared Loot, Shared Success: Every weapon and ability unlocked is shared across the team, encouraging players to try new builds and freely experiment without worrying about loot competition.
    • Team Combos: The physics system creates endless opportunities for team synergy. Imagine one player launching a group of enemies into the air, while another summons a tornado to juggle them, and a third finishes the chain by slamming them into a cliff face.

    The Journey Ahead

With a gorgeous, Norse-inspired art style and a premise that promises endless emergent gameplay, Cloudheim by Noodle Cat Games is set to be one of the most exciting new co-op adventures of the year.

The demo has already given players a taste of the physics-fueled fun, and with the Early Access launch on Steam and Epic Games Store slated for December 4th, the full journey to shape the next world is about to begin.

Are you ready to kick an enemy off a floating island and then sell the loot they drop to a tiny, adorable creature back on your flying turtle base? We certainly are. Wishlist Cloudheim today and prepare for the chaos!

  • Unleash Your Inner Gravedigger: Why You Need to Play Gravelord

Unleash Your Inner Gravedigger: Why You Need to Play Gravelord

The “boomer shooter” renaissance is in full swing, and if you thought you’d seen every take on the retro FPS formula, think again. Enter Gravelord, a game that takes the frantic, secret-filled, key-hunting chaos of classics like Doom and Quake, then slathers it with a thick, gruesome layer of dark fantasy humour and a few genuinely fresh twists. Developed by Fatbot Games, this title is shaping up to be a standout in the modern retro shooter scene.

The Good, The Badass, and The Gravedigger

In Gravelord, you step into the enormous boots of Queedo the Gravedigger, a protagonist described as “dumb as hell but strong as an ox,” on a quest for vengeance. Forget your silent protagonists; Queedo is a sassy antihero in the vein of Duke Nukem, armed with a Cockney accent and a treasure trove of witty (and often rotten) one-liners.

The premise is simple: an alchemist named Keron Husk murdered your father and unleashed an undead scourge. The solution? Run, jump, and blast your way through grotesque, Gothic-themed levels.

A Symphony of Speed and Shovels

At its core, Gravelord is about pure, unadulterated speed. The movement is fluid and fast, encouraging constant aggression and skilful manoeuvring. But what sets it apart from a simple clone is its unique mechanics:

    • The Spectral Shovel: This isn’t just a melee weapon; it’s a traversal tool. You can use your “Total Uber Shovel” like a grappling hook or a dash ability, allowing you to cover great distances, overcome obstacles, and launch yourself out of the clutches of a monster horde. It adds a whole new dimension of verticality and dynamic movement to the classic run-and-gun.
    • The Tarot Card System: This roguelike-inspired feature adds a layer of depth and replayability. As you progress, you collect magical Tarot Cards that offer various buffs and combat options. Since you can only equip a few at a time, you’re constantly faced with strategic choices about what combination best suits your current playstyle—do you go for a defensive build with “Armour on Kill” or stack up damage boosts?

    Level Design That Demands Exploration

One of the game’s greatest strengths, frequently highlighted by early access players, is its level design. Eschewing realism for fun, the maps are complex, hand-crafted labyrinths packed with hidden secrets, challenging platforming sections, and expertly choreographed monster closets. You’ll be traversing graveyards, crypts, and magmatic crematoriums, constantly circling back through areas you thought you’d cleared, thanks to clever use of traversal abilities and looping layouts. If you miss the intricate, non-linear maps of the 90s, Gravelord is a glorious throwback.

    The Verdict (So Far)

Currently in Early Access, Gravelord already feels like a complete and deeply satisfying experience. It successfully blends the nostalgic crunch of retro shooters with modern visual polish, a unique grappling mechanic, and the strategic layer of the Tarot Card system.

If you’re a fan of boomer shooters—or if you just miss the days when games prioritised non-stop, glorious carnage and intricate level exploration—Gravelord is an essential addition to your library. Get ready to put the fun back in funeral.

Everwind: Setting Sail on the Survival RPG Clouds

Everwind, an ambitious title from developer Enjoy Studio S.A. and publisher Bohemia Interactive, is poised to take the sandbox survival and RPG genres to new heights—literally. Billed as a first-person adventure set in a world of floating islands, the game puts a fresh, sky-faring twist on familiar survival mechanics.

Currently generating buzz with a recent Steam demo release, Everwind invites players to embark on a grand cooperative adventure, trading terrestrial survival for the freedom and danger of the open skies.

Gameplay: Your Home in the Clouds

At its core, Everwind is a blend of exploration, crafting, combat, and base-building, all centred around a unique mobile fortress: your flying island-ship.

Key Features of the Everwind Experience:

    • Airship Base-Building: The flagship feature is your customizable airship, which acts as your floating base and gateway to the world. Players must gather resources, craft essential items, and continually build upon this vessel, turning it into a fortress and a home. The construction system moves beyond simple cubes, offering wedges and sloped parts for more detailed builds, ensuring your aerial sanctuary is truly your own.
    • A World of Floating Islands: The procedurally generated world is a vast, endless horizon of floating islands, each promising new resources, enemies, and mysteries. The environment is also fully destructible, giving players freedom to shape the world according to their needs and vision.
    • Deep RPG and Survival Mechanics: Players engage in typical survival activities like gathering resources, crafting, and looting, but overlaid with an RPG progression system. Combat involves both melee (sword and shield) and powerful magic, with a range of mystical staffs and the arcane art of alchemy offering strategic advantages in battle. Players can also unlock skill trees and personalise their character.
    • Dungeons and Exploration: Adventure awaits in dungeons found across the islands, where players will battle various foes and challenging bosses to secure valuable treasures. The sky is layered into different tiers, with higher altitudes offering greater challenge and more substantial rewards.
    • Co-op and Multiplayer: Everwind is built with co-op in mind, supporting up to four players in online multiplayer. Teamwork is essential for coordinating tasks, exploring ruins, and taking on tougher challenges, making for a shared survival experience. The developers plan to support dedicated servers in the future.

    Development Status

Developed by Enjoy Studio S.A. and published by Bohemia Interactive, Everwind has been highly anticipated, recently surpassing over 500,000 Steam wishlists. The game is slated for an Early Access release in 2026 on PC, with plans for console releases as well.

  • Enter the Arena: Why Bloodgrounds is the Gladiator Strategy Game You Need to Watch

Enter the Arena: Why Bloodgrounds is the Gladiator Strategy Game You Need to Watch

Step into the blood-soaked sands of the arena, not as a fighter, but as a wealthy patron with a singular purpose: vengeance. Bloodgrounds, a brutal new tactical strategy RPG from Exordium Games and Daedalic Entertainment, is quickly garnering attention for its compelling blend of turn-based combat and deep roguelite management.

If you’ve ever wished for an XCOM or Darkest Dungeon experience set in a dark-fantasy Roman world, where your warriors are gladiators and your city is your barracks, you need to be paying attention to this game.

Where the Blood is Spilled: The Core Gameplay Loop

Bloodgrounds isn’t just a combat game; it’s a constant, deadly balancing act. The game is split into two distinct, equally vital layers:

    1. The Arena: Brutal Turn-Based Tactics

At its heart, Bloodgrounds features grid-based, turn-based combat. You command a small team of gladiators, each belonging to a distinct class—physical, ranged, or magical—with unique abilities and equipment.

    • Tactical Depth: Positioning and smart use of action points are crucial. Arenas are filled with hazards, traps, and audience-thrown power-ups.
    • Permadeath: This is the game’s brutal core. If a gladiator falls in battle, they are lost forever, along with all their hard-earned gear and progress. Every decision, from an aggressive move to a tactical retreat, carries catastrophic weight.
    • Mercy or Murder: A unique mechanic allows you to recruit new fighters mid-battle. When you defeat an enemy, you can often choose to show them mercy—sparing their life to have them join your roster—or execute them for an immediate reward. It’s a ruthless calculation that can shape your entire squad.

    2. The City: Management and Progression

Between the deadly tournaments, you retire to Marevento, the coastal city you oversee. Here, you transition from field general to shrewd manager:

    • Squad Management: You recruit new fighters, train them, level up their stats, and equip them with a wide variety of weapons and armour. Crucially, you must also manage the inevitable traumas and negative statuses that surviving a brutal fight inflicts on your gladiators.
    • City Building: Your gold is used to unlock, construct, and upgrade various buildings in your estate—from the Infirmary (to treat those nasty wounds) to the Market and a Monument to honour the fallen. These buildings unlock new mechanics, services, and powerful upgrades.
    • The Big Picture: Your ultimate goal is a desperate quest for vengeance against the tyrannical Emperor. Each successful arena victory brings you one step closer to your final confrontation at the Capitol.

The Darkest Dungeon Meets Ancient Rome

The comparison to games like Darkest Dungeon and Battle Brothers is unavoidable and well-deserved. Bloodgrounds nails the sense of high-stakes attrition. You’re constantly managing scarce resources (your gladiators), and a single bad run can derail your entire campaign.

The game’s dark fantasy world, complete with mythological beasties, angry deities, and dealings with shady crime lords, adds a fresh, intriguing layer to the classic Roman gladiator trope. The pixel-art aesthetic is both beautiful and suitably grim, perfectly capturing the gritty spectacle of the arena.

    Ready for Early Access

With the full release planned for 2025, Bloodgrounds is heading into Early Access on Steam soon. The current demo offers a substantial slice of the game, letting players dive deep into the first ‘Age’ of challenges. It’s a great opportunity to get a feel for the deadly pace, complex class synergies, and the permanent cost of failure.

If you’re a fan of deep tactical combat, punishing roguelite progression, and complex resource management, it’s time to don your manager’s robes. The crowds are roaring, and your quest for vengeance awaits!

Are you ready to send your gladiators to glory… or death?

  • Clock In, Card Up: Why You Need to Play the Lunchbreak Tactics Demo!

Clock In, Card Up: Why You Need to Play the Lunchbreak Tactics Demo!

Let’s face it: the daily grind can be a slog. You clock in, you do the thing, and then you have that glorious, fleeting window of freedom—your lunch break. For most, it’s a quick sandwich and doom-scrolling. But for the dedicated employees at your local superstore (and for the Lunchbreak Tactics dev team), it’s something much, much more.

It’s war. A glorious, strategic, auto-battler card game war.

We’re thrilled to see the buzz around the Lunchbreak Tactics Demo on Steam, and if you haven’t punched your time card yet, you’re missing out on the most bizarre and brilliant office obsession.

    The Supermarket of Strategy

Lunchbreak Tactics isn’t just another card game; it’s a whole world built out of the mundane. The setting is a superstore, and your units are the everyday objects that have been brought to life by your co-workers’ shared obsession. We’re talking about roguelite auto-battler gameplay where Paladin Pineapples and Wizard Wipes duke it out across the breakroom table.

You play as the new trainee, trying to rise through the ranks by mastering this incredibly addictive card game that your co-workers invented. What started as a casual pastime has, naturally, become an all-consuming, asynchronous, multiplayer phenomenon across the store.

How to Clock In a Win

Every round of Lunchbreak Tactics is a fresh start—a new shift, if you will. The core of the game comes down to three crucial choices that define your run:

    1. Your Hero: Each hero is an in-store legend, offering a unique passive power that can shape your entire strategy. Do you boost your economy, empower certain unit types, or bend the rules in clever ways? Choose wisely, because your hero sets the tone.
    2. Your Two Clans (Decks): Your clans determine the pool of units and items you’ll be drawing from. With themes ranging from aggressive Pirates to eternal Necroes, mixing and matching two clans allows for wild, unpredictable, and devastating combinations.

From there, it’s all about building the perfect squad over thirteen intense rounds. With over a hundred units and dozens of heroes, the strategic possibilities and powerful synergies are virtually endless. Finding that perfect combo of units and items is the key to climbing the ranks and becoming the ultimate slacker—uh, we mean, the Employee of the Month card master.

    Play at Your Own Pace

One of the best features of Lunchbreak Tactics is the commitment to the concept: it’s the perfect game for… well, your lunch break!

The game is built around an asynchronous multiplayer experience. That means you can take your turn, put your phone down, eat your sandwich, and come back later. You play at your own rhythm, whenever and wherever you want, without the pressure of a real-time match. It’s perfect for a quick session during that 15-minute coffee break or a deeper dive when you have more time to kill.

    Your Shift Starts Now

Don’t just sit there counting the minutes until quitting time. Grab your badge, step up to the breakroom, and experience the tactical depth and quirky charm that have made this game a store-wide obsession.

The free demo is available right now on Steam! Jump in, define your playstyle, and see what wild synergies you can cook up. We can’t wait to see your squads dominate the breakroom leaderboards!

  • Shapeshifting Chaos: Diving into the Morbid Metal Playtest!

Shapeshifting Chaos: Diving into the Morbid Metal Playtest!

The digital arena is buzzing, and it’s all thanks to the recent playtest for Morbid Metal, the upcoming hack ‘n’ slash action roguelite from developer SCREEN JUICE and publisher Ubisoft. After tearing through the demo myself, I can confidently say this game is an absolute rush of high-octane, cyberpunk-infused combat!

If you missed the hype, Morbid Metal is a fast-paced action game where the core mechanic revolves around real-time shapeshifting between multiple unique characters. You’re not just switching weapons; you’re fundamentally changing your combat style, and chaining these transformations is the key to mastering the brutal, semi-procedurally generated levels.

Here’s a breakdown of what makes this playtest a must-try experience.

    1. Combat That Sings: The Shapeshifting Synergy

The immediate takeaway from the demo is the sheer fluidity and style of the combat. It’s a blend that feels inspired by games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, all wrapped up in a dark, neon-soaked future.

The playtest gave us access to two characters, each a polar opposite:

    • Flux: The nimble, razor-fast katana wielder. Perfect for quick strikes, air combos, and evasion.
    • Ekku: The heavy-hitter, slow but devastating. His powerful glaive strikes land with a satisfying thud and is great for breaking shields.

The magic happens when you realise you can swap characters mid-combo. Starting an air juggle with Flux and instantly switching to Ekku for a massive slam attack is incredibly satisfying. It transforms every encounter into a high-speed, choreographed dance of destruction. The combat is genuinely addictive, forcing you to think strategically about synergy, not just button-mashing.

    2. A Solid Roguelite Foundation

Beyond the flashy combat, Morbid Metal plants itself firmly in the roguelite genre. The loop is immediately recognisable:

    • Clear rooms and waves of enemies.
    • Collect upgrade cards to enhance your characters, boosting damage, abilities, or even adding new mechanical quirks.
    • Die, and it’s all gone.

However, the game adds a brilliant layer of complexity with the upgrades. Since you’re building out two characters at once (and eventually up to four in the full game), you’re constantly looking for upgrades that not only benefit the individual but also synergise with the other members of your squad. Do you go all-in on Flux’s speed, or balance it with Ekku’s raw power?

The addition of the high-risk, high-reward “Deal with the Devil” statues further spices up the run, offering massive buffs paired with equally crippling debuffs.

    3. Style and Atmosphere

Visually, Morbid Metal nails its cyberpunk aesthetic. The environments are a stunning mix of futuristic tech and atmospheric decay. The character designs—sleek, expressive robotic warriors—are a feast for the eyes.

It’s a game that doesn’t rely on deep, verbose lore (at least in this slice), and that’s okay. Morbid Metal is all about the spectacle, handing you a ridiculously stylish sword and saying, “Be cool. Don’t die.”

Early Impressions: A Recipe for Success

The Morbid Metal playtest is more than just a promising demo; it’s a confident proof-of-concept for a deeply engaging action system. While minor things like camera behaviour and combat readability could see polish, the foundation is rock-solid.

If you’re a fan of stylish action games, high-speed combat, or a roguelite loop that keeps you coming back for “just one more run,” you absolutely need to have Morbid Metal on your radar.

Morbid Metal is slated to launch into Early Access soon. Get ready to shapeshift, slaughter, and try to survive just one more time.

  • A New Narrative Unfurls: Why We’re Hyped for Sova

A New Narrative Unfurls: Why We’re Hyped for Sova

In the ever-expanding universe of action roguelikes, a new contender is on the horizon, promising to do something truly special. Forget grinding for gear in a vacuum; independent game studio Entropic Island is setting the stage for Sova, a game where your choices, your deaths, and your failures aren’t just a reset—they’re part of the story.

Slated for Early Access on Steam in 2026, Sova is a narrative-driven action roguelike that merges fast-paced, expressive combat with a story that reacts to your every decision. If you’ve ever played a roguelike and wished there was a deeper, more personal narrative tying your runs together, Sova might just be the game you’ve been waiting for.

A World Shaped by Your Actions (and Deaths)

The core promise of Sova lies in its innovative narrative design. Each run isn’t just about getting further; it’s about peeling back a new layer of the game’s mysterious, sci-fi fantasy world. The developers at Entropic Island, a small Serbian studio with a history of creating “narrative-rich and mechanically ambitious games,” are building a story that unfolds organically through gameplay. Dying isn’t the end—it’s a new beginning that reshapes the world and your story.

This isn’t just about cosmetic changes. Sova boasts a deeply branching dialogue system, where you can shape conversations and the world itself. Imagine a game where you can walk away from a character, interrupt them mid-sentence, or even get into a brawl with them, and all of it has a lasting impact on your future runs. This level of player agency is a breath of fresh air for the genre.

A Fusion of Genres and Styles

The game’s setting is as unique as its narrative approach. Sova draws on “New Weird fiction, Eastern European myth, and speculative sci-fantasy” to create a world unlike any other. This eclectic mix is brought to life with a beautiful, hand-crafted pixel art style and a “reactive, haunting soundtrack” that adapts to your journey. You’ll descend into the ever-shifting landscape of the “Conjecture,” exploring everything from a dying megacity to vibrant wastelands and industrial hellscapes of metal and flesh.

The combat itself is designed to be just as dynamic. It’s described as fast, fluid, and expressive, allowing you to master new abilities and craft builds on the fly. You’ll need to, as you face overwhelming odds and impose “laws” onto the world that shape future runs. This seems to imply a system where you can permanently alter the game’s mechanics or environment, adding another layer of long-term strategy to the roguelike loop.

Sova is still a bit of a mystery, but the recent announcement trailer has given us a tantalising glimpse of what’s to come. For anyone who loves the challenge of a roguelike but craves a story that evolves with them, Sova is a title to keep a close eye on. Add it to your wishlist on Steam and get ready to rewrite your past and bend a crumbling realm to your will when it launches in Early Access in 2026.
