Blink, Shift, Survive — Time To Wake Up Launches as Belgian Debut Thriller

Step into a dream where your eyes are your only way out. Belgian independent studio Eye Blink Twice has officially launched their very first commercial title: Time To Wake Up, an atmospheric psychological thriller built around one deceptively simple mechanic — the act of blinking. Available right now on Steam and PlayStation 5, with Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch joining later this year.

What Is Time To Wake Up?

You play as Alan Malone, trapped in a shifting, surreal dreamscape woven from fractured school-day memories. Guided by a mysterious voice that knows your eyes better than you do, you must navigate an endless, warped maze of classrooms, libraries, playgrounds, and corridors — all while confronting the shadows of your past.

“One night, you find yourself stuck in a dream. You hear a voice, fond of your eyes. Together, you set out on a trip down memory lane.” — Eye Blink Twice

This isn’t a typical horror game of jump scares and cheap shocks. Instead, it leans into atmosphere, unease, and psychological weight — a journey through spaces that feel familiar yet fundamentally wrong, where every hallway can twist and rewrite itself the moment you close your eyes.

The Core Mechanic — Blink and the World Changes

Your most powerful ability is also your most natural: blinking. Close your eyes, and reality reshapes itself:

EffectWhat Happens
Reset & ShiftMoving objects freeze, rewind, or reposition
FloodDry rooms fill with water; new paths rise to the surface
FlipGravity twists — floors become ceilings, up becomes down
RevealHidden messages, doorways, and clues appear only in one state

Solving puzzles means learning to see both versions of every space — before the blink and after. It turns a basic human reflex into a tool of perception, timing, and discovery.

Environments — Familiar Places, Unsettling Twists

The world of Time To Wake Up draws directly from everyday school life — then warps it into something dreamlike and disquieting:

  • Dim-lit, endless libraries
  • Corridors that loop and stretch
  • Playgrounds that rearrange themselves
  • Bathrooms with impossible geometry
  • Walls covered in cryptic quotes and half-remembered fragments

Every area carries a distinct, heavy atmosphere — intimate, claustrophobic, and quietly haunting.

Themes — Memory, Trauma, and Moving On

Beneath the shifting surfaces lies a story about unprocessed trauma and the difficulty of facing what we’ve buried. The game does not shy away from heavy subjects — described as containing strong language and themes of unresolved trauma — but frames them with care, through the language of metaphor and environment rather than graphic violence.

It’s a game about looking at what you’ve been avoiding — and finding the courage to open your eyes.

Why It Stands Out

For a debut studio project, Time To Wake Up is remarkably confident. It takes a single, elegant idea — that blinking can rewrite the world — and builds an entire experience around it, without overcomplicating or diluting the core mechanic. It also proves that indie teams can deliver polished, thoughtful experiences that tackle emotional themes with sensitivity.

Eye Blink Twice has arrived — and they’re asking you not just to watch, but to blink, look again, and wake up.

“Your eyes are the key out of this maze of memories.”
