The plains, deserts, and oceans of your Minecraft world just got a whole lot more chaotic—and a whole lot more exciting! The Mounts of Mayhem content drop has arrived on the Nintendo Switch, bringing a fresh focus on speed, combat, and, of course, some truly wild new rides.
If you thought you knew mounted combat, think again. This update redefines how you traverse and battle, no matter if you prefer a sturdy steed or an aquatic ally. Get ready to saddle up and dive into the biggest features of this game-changing drop!
The Spear: A New Weapon for a New Era of Combat
For the first time in ages, Minecraft has a brand new tiered weapon, and it’s built for movement: the Spear.
- Velocity is Key: The Spear’s main draw is its Charge Attack, which deals damage that scales with your speed. That means whether you’re sprinting on foot, flying with your Elytra, or charging full-tilt on a mount, the faster you go, the harder you hit. Time to practice your jousting!
- Keep Your Distance: Use the Jab Attack for quick, low-damage hits and knockback to keep those creepers at bay.
- The Lunge Enchantment: Exclusive to the Spear, this new enchantment gives your jab attack a sudden burst of speed, helping you close the gap on your enemies (and power up that charge damage!).
This isn’t just a new item—it’s a whole new way to play. The Switch’s portability makes testing out these speed-based attacks on the go a perfect fit!
Conquer the Waves with the Nautilus
Forget the boat! Exploration now extends deep underwater with the beautiful, new aquatic mount: the Nautilus.
- Taming and Riding: Find the neutral Nautilus in most ocean biomes and tame it with a Pufferfish. Equip a saddle and some new Nautilus Armor (available in Copper up to Netherite) and you’re ready to dive!
- Endless Air: When riding, you gain the Breath of the Nautilus effect, which indefinitely pauses your air consumption! Say goodbye to frantic swims to the surface and hello to boundless deep-sea adventures.
- The Zombie Nautilus: You’ll also find hostile Zombie Nautiluses being ridden by trident-wielding Drowned. Take out the rider, tame the beast, and you’ll have a fierce, undead sea mount of your own! Look out for the rare Coral Zombie Nautilus in warmer waters!
Undead Riders and Enhanced Steeds
The new mayhem isn’t just for you; hostile mobs are mounting up too! But where there’s a hostile rider, there’s a chance for a new friend.
- The Camel Husk: Watch out in the deserts! The Camel Husk is a sun-immune undead camel that can spawn with up to two hostile riders: a spear-wielding Husk and the new Parched skeleton, which shoots arrows of Weakness. Defeat the riders to claim a sun-proof camel for yourself!
- Zombie Horses in the Wild: The legendary Zombie Horse finally spawns naturally in Survival Mode, often ridden by a spear-wielding Zombie at night. Unseat the rider, tame the horse, and make sure to equip it with armour, as it will burn in the sunlight without it!
On the flip side, your trusty, living steeds are also getting a major upgrade:
- Horses Can Swim! Finally! Your beloved horse will no longer sink like a rock when you try to cross a lake. They move slower in the water, but they won’t force you to dismount and build a temporary bridge ever again.
- Netherite Horse Armor: Give your best companion the ultimate defense. You can now upgrade Diamond Horse Armor using a Netherite Ingot and a Smithing Template.
Mayhem Awaits on Your Switch
The Mounts of Mayhem update injects a massive dose of chaos and kinetic energy into the bedrock edition, and it’s all available right now on your Nintendo Switch. Whether you’re charging down a desert dune on a Camel Husk or exploring a forgotten monument on a Nautilus, the possibilities for adventure are more thrilling than ever.
