The round-based wave shooter is getting a gothic, blood-soaked makeover. Hell Byte Studios has officially announced that their debut title, Blood Reaver, is launching into Steam Early Access on April 15, 2026.
For fans of the classic Call of Duty Zombies formula who have been craving more atmosphere and deep magic systems, this might be the indie hit of the spring.
A Love Letter to the Wave Shooter
Developed by a team of genre veterans who grew up on high-stakes survival shooters, Blood Reaver aims to evolve the “horde mode” experience. It isn’t just about clicking on heads; it’s about managing your own mortality through a visceral combination of gunplay and forbidden sorcery.
Set in a world that draws heavy aesthetic inspiration from Bloodborne and DOOM, you play as a cursed warrior tasked with holding back the tide of a demonic invasion. Whether you’re diving in solo or with up to three friends in online co-op, the goal is simple: survive the escalating rounds as the demons grow faster, tougher, and more numerous.
Key Gameplay Features
- Blood-Fueled Magic: While guns follow a linear power curve, your abilities are fueled by the literal blood of your enemies. You can master Ethereal Arts to warp space-time or tap into Forbidden powers to turn demonic energy back on its masters.
- Deep Build Crafting: Before each run, you’ll choose your loadout, but the real power comes from the Deck of Fates. During waves, you’ll reveal cards to bolster your stats and modify your abilities.
- The Blood Infuser: Standard weapons aren’t enough for the later rounds. Players must offer their gear to the Blood Infuser to craft devastating synergies and elemental upgrades.
- Hidden Lore: Each map isn’t just an arena; it’s a puzzle. Hidden narrative “Easter Eggs” and secret objectives allow players to piece together the dark history of the world.

Early Access and Pricing
Hell Byte Studios plans to keep Blood Reaver in Early Access for roughly 1 to 2 years. During this time, they intend to add more maps, enemy types, and a robust meta-progression system that allows you to upgrade your characters outside of active matches.
