Indie simulation fans, get your stamps and ledger books ready. If games like Papers, Please and Not Tonight left you craving more high-stress bureaucratic tension, independent development studio Hiscory has just the ticket.
The studio has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated 1980s dystopian banking simulator, Teller’s Duty. Mark your calendars: you will be stepping behind the counter on 12 June 2026.
Welcome to Kertasia: Cash, Bureaucracy, and Cat Companions
Set in the fictional, oppressive 1980s nation of Kertasia, Teller’s Duty puts you in the shoes of a bank teller who secured a lifeline of a job thanks to a favour from a distant uncle (who also happens to be the branch manager).
But this is no ordinary desk job. Under the thumb of a volatile government, the rules change daily. The core gameplay challenges your attention to detail and your speed, forcing you to:
- Navigate Evolving Bureaucracy: Adapt to bizarre, shifting daily transaction protocols.
- Spot the Fraud: Manually count cash, cross-reference paperwork, and spot clever forgeries.
- Manage Your Survival: Balance your meagre savings, pay for your mother’s medical bills, and make sure to buy food for yourself and your loyal pet cat.
A Game of Crushing Moral Dilemmas
What separates Teller’s Duty from a standard puzzle game is its heavy emphasis on narrative and choice. Over a focused 6 to 8-hour story experience, you will encounter more than 100 unique customers, each with unpredictable demands and desperate stories.
Will you strictly enforce the state’s oppressive financial policies to please your demanding uncle, or will you risk your own life—and your family’s safety—to secretly help the citizens across the counter?
Every choice matters, leading toward three unique endings that judge your morality, ambition, and survival instincts. All of this is wrapped beautifully in a “vintage paper” aesthetic inspired by old, grim government documents.
Where and When to Play
You won’t have to wait long to experience the gruelling bureaucratic nightmare for yourself. Teller’s Duty officially launches on 12 June 2026.
The game will be available on:
- PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store)
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One
