The masters of narrative storytelling at DON’T NOD (the team behind Life is Strange and Jusant) have officially launched their latest venture into the stars. Aphelion is available today on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Survival at the Edge of Reason
Set in the 2060s, Aphelion follows astronauts Ariane and Thomas on the Hope-01 mission. Their goal? To survey Persephone, a mysterious ninth planet at the edge of our solar system that could be humanity’s last hope for survival.
Things, as they usually do in deep space, go sideways. After a catastrophic crash landing, the duo is separated on a frozen, shifting world. You’ll need to navigate a landscape that is as beautiful as it is lethal, all while being stalked by a terrifying, unknown lifeform known as the Nemesis.
Dual-Perspective Gameplay
The game offers a unique “dual-perspective” mechanic that keeps the pacing fresh:
- Ariane: Focuses on high-stakes parkour, traversal, and momentum-driven movement across treacherous ice cliffs and chasms.
- Thomas: Injured in the crash, his segments are more grounded, focusing on survival, investigation, and using his wits to solve environmental puzzles.
Realism Meets Sci-Fi Horror
What sets Aphelion apart is its grounded approach. By working with the ESA, DON’T NOD has crafted a realistic depiction of near-future space exploration. However, don’t let the “science” label fool you—there is a distinct Alien vibe here. The stealth sequences against the Nemesis are designed to be genuinely tense, forcing you to use your environment and limited tools (like your pathfinder and oxygen tank) to stay alive.
