Grab your backpack, grab your lucky d6, and don’t let the bedbugs bite. Chugga Games — led by veteran designer Brian Cronin (Monster Train, Inkbound, Natural Selection 2) — has officially launched Slumber Realm, the dice roguelike where your childhood bedroom becomes your fortress, your fears become monsters, and a single roll of the dice sets your entire strategy in motion. It’s live now on Steam — with a 10% launch discount available for the first 10 days.
ONE ROLL, ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES — THE DICE THAT TRIGGERS EVERYTHING
Slumber Realm reimagines the roguelike formula around a brilliantly simple hook: one die roll triggers your entire build. You arrange your backpack — your deck — so that whatever face comes up, cards chain together into cascading combos, devastating hits, and wildly creative synergies. It’s not about hunting for the perfect roll — it’s about building a machine that thrives no matter what number lands face up.
- 30-minute runs — tight, punchy, endlessly replayable
- 150+ cards — from Rusty Nails to Socks Full of Nickels
- 40+ Memories — persistent modifiers that twist and enhance every run
- 35+ Snacks — instant boosts, battle buffs, and fuel for your favourite digital pet
- Dual-Class Drafting — pick any two “Aspects” and merge their card pools. Tactical + Sk8er? Gamer + Tinker? Every pairing creates a completely different playstyle
YOUR BEDROOM, YOUR FORTRESS — UPGRADE, DECORATE, RETURN STRONGER
Between battles, you’re back in your bedroom — a warm, nostalgic ’90s sanctuary where every victory earns you Allowance. Spend it on retro treasures: lava lamps, boomboxes, skate decks, and classic consoles. Each morning, your decorations generate Cool Points — the currency that unlocks new cards, Aspects, enemies, and surprises from your Corkboard. The more you decorate, the deeper your options grow.
THE KNIGHTMARES ARE COMING — FEAR NOT BECAUSE THEY’RE FAMILIAR
What haunts your dreams? In Slumber Realm, it’s not generic demons — it’s the stuff that actually kept you up at night:
- The Lunch Lady — serving seconds whether you want them or not
- Geology Homework — still due, still terrifying
- The Werecoach — making you run laps until you howl
- The Alarm Clock — furious that you’re still in bed
- The Boss of the Sun — cycling between day and night forms as you fight
Each Knightmare has distinct patterns, and beating them unlocks them — or their minions — to appear in future runs, expanding the game’s scope the more you play.
FROM MONSTER TRAIN TO DREAMLAND — BRIAN CRONIN’S NEW VISION
Slumber Realm is the debut project from Chugga Games, an ultrasmall indie studio founded by Brian Cronin — designer behind acclaimed roguelike Monster Train, co-creator of tactical co-op Inkbound, and contributor to classic FPS/RTS Natural Selection 2. Working alongside artist and UX designer Juliana Rabelo, Cronin has built something that carries his signature focus on deep, build-driven strategy — but wrapped it in warmth, humour, and nostalgia.
“Some of the same DNA from Monster Train is here — but this is its own thing. We wanted to make a game where every run feels like a new experiment, where you can build absurd combos that break the rules, and where the world feels like a memory you’re happy to revisit.” — Brian Cronin, Chugga Games
