Aquila Interactive and Nepos Games have officially announced that their ambitious medieval county-builder, County of Fortune, will launch into Steam Early Access on 5 November 2026 — and players won’t have to wait that long to get their hands on it, with a free demo arriving in October.
Not Just Another Town — Build an Entire Region
Unlike traditional city-building games that focus on a single settlement, County of Fortune expands the canvas to an entire county. As a lokator — a medieval steward and coloniser — you’re given a vast stretch of untamed land to shape from the ground up. You choose where each village takes root, watch it grow from a tiny hamlet into a bustling city, and connect settlements into a thriving, interconnected region.
Rivers, fertile soil, mineral deposits, and climate all matter — you’ll plan around the land, not over it. Place a town near iron and you’ll forge weapons; site it on a fertile river valley and trade will flourish. Every map plays differently, with procedurally generated architecture filling out your streets block by block.
Life Beyond Bricks: Politics, Culture, and Rivalry
As your county grows, so does its complexity. Each settlement gets its own mayor — complete with unique strengths, weaknesses, and personalities — who steers local development. Noble houses rise to power, vying for influence and shaping the political landscape. Meanwhile, migrating cultures bring new customs and economic bonuses… but also tensions if they don’t see eye to eye.
The result is a living, breathing world where your choices ripple across the region. Will you forge a single united heartland, or let proud rival houses shape a patchwork of distinct realms?
