Independent studio Artificium Games has officially announced their debut title, an entirely human-made action-adventure releasing on Steam and itch.io on September 15, 2026. Designed to subvert traditional RPG and fantasy tropes, Oops! You’re the Hero! trades heroic destinies for begrudging responsibility, snarky banter, and true player freedom.

Steal the Artefact, Gain the Agony

In Oops! You’re the Hero!, players step into the boots of a quick-witted thief exploring the world of Othaya—a realm where magic and monsters were thought to be remnants of the past. That is, until our thief swipes a mysterious artefact and sets off a chain reaction of total absurdity.

Suddenly marked as the realm’s chosen saviour, every boss, villain, and creature in Othaya comes out of the woodwork to test your heroic mettle. Accompanied by Tut Puff, a chattily persistent companion, your goal isn’t to save the realm or slay the dragon for eternal glory—it’s simply to return the stolen goods, shed the unwanted “Hero” title, and get back to a peaceful life of crime.

Choice-Driven Chaos: Boss Fight or Stealth Away?

Where Oops! You’re the Hero! truly sets itself apart from standard action-adventures is in how it treats combat and exploration. Recognising that a reluctant thief wouldn’t necessarily stand and fight every towering monster, every level is built with player agency in mind.

Behind Oops! You’re the Hero! is Artificium Games, founded by Kit A., an alumnus of the Girls Make Games initiative who began her game development journey eight years ago. Artificium Games proudly highlights that the title is entirely human-made, centring human artistry and collaborative storytelling in an era of rapid automation.

“I wanted to stay true to the main character’s personality and give the players an out for things they may or may not want to do,” explains founder Kit A. “That also includes giving the player tools during fights and exploration options that are more unconventional than what a standard hero would normally get.”
